There were very few record
companies west of Grand River on the Soulful Detroit map, and this was one of them.
Ashford was one of the first
addresses that I noticed on a record label and it held a
special place in my heart. When I saw the building, I was
not disappointed, it was just as I had imagined.
Ashford Records was formed
by Jack Ashford and Lorraine Chandler, who, if not married, were
certainly an item.
There was to be only one release
on the label and that was Eddie Parker's 'Love you baby'.
Why would a label with only
one release hold such significance? Eddie Parker's frantic
but marvellous recording was regularly voted the most popular
Northern Soul record ever in the mid-seventies.
Ashford and Chandler were also
part of the fabulous Pied Piper Production team.
