    Motown Meets Philly

What is the name of the CD that came out a few years ago that had Motown artists covering Philly songs & vice versa? I've been searching but can't find it. Thanks

Hey Bill, I remember reading about this a while ago...

If I recall correctly A Soulful Tale Of Two Cities was essentially a compilation album of new recordings... Philly artists covering Motown songs, and Motown artists covering Philly songs. The album was quite recent... 2000s I think.

Here’s its release page on discogs: https://www.discogs.com/Various-A-So...elease/6739246

It's worth it for The Velvelettes' and Carolyn Crawford's tracks alone!

Back during the "Golden Age" of Soulful Detroit, this project was discussed quite a bit:

OMG! I had totally forgotten the 'drama' surrounding this and what the resulting fallout was! I don't think that it was a success, at least not in the UK.

had peeked my interest with this one until I realized it was made in more recent days . I think there's only a handful ? of songs that crossed back and forth between the two labels back when the songs were fresh. Can't even say the majority of the song choices here over impress me, especially amongst Motown's . But since LOVE TRAIN is my all time favorite PIR record I gave that song a go on youtube. . Not bad , but its hard to go wrong with LOVE TRAIN. Without the prerequisite Don Reynaldo strings it's an uphill climb from there for me . Excellent male back up, bongoing. Nice drop-outs. Stronger thump ! And really , the song is about "people all over the world " with all that vamping at the end, you can't come up with a few more places in the world to mention!! [[ Same goes for The Supremes version!)

As a "Motown" tie-in Bunny was related to Tammi Terrell [[Montgomery), Ira Tucker Jr and Lynda Laurence all of Philadelphia.
