You beat me to it, Roberta! Food for thought--what do you all think of these casting possibilities?

That is some awesome casting.
For old time music fans, it would be a stroke of genius to cast Mary Wilson as the wicked witch but I appreciate the young folks won't know who she is. Particularly if Diana is going to be the Good Witch!
Thanks, Ms. Roberta, as usual, for your timely news! I also will look forward to this production. I'm a bit sad to see that the news articles are only mentioning the film; I was lucky to see the original Broadway production with Hinton Battle, Ted Ross, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Tiger Haynes, Tasha Thomas, Mabel King, and the exquisite Ms. Stephanie Mills as Dorothy! It was a cast for the ages!
I think the casting suggestions are amazing; but realistically, salaries for these stars would be in the millions. NBC ain't gonna play that.
RobertZ, I too saw the original Broadway production and you are right, it was a cast for the ages!!! The critics hated it and gave it terrible reviews. The producers went to Black Radio [[drum net) to spread the word and to the Black churches, and the people especially church folks came out in droves and saved the show.

Huge amount of press for this.
Cirque du Soleil is involved.
If Cirque du Soleil is involved with the new Broadway show, it will be a great show.
How about the idea that she's been far ruder to Miss Ross? That might be a point for some consideration. Did you ever read some of the comment about their joint appearance at Motown the Musical? They were much blunter. And don't you think such inspired casting would attract Motown fans?
