    Yes. Mary filed a lawsuit against the “Former Ladies of the Supremes” She claimed they were misleading the public into believing they were the authentic Supremes. The rights to the group’s name are owned by Motown Records, not by former members like Mary. The Court ruled that Motown had allowed the “Former Ladies of the Supremes” and “Sounds of the Supremes,” to keep their names, and there was nothing Mary could do about it.

    Of course, at the time, Mary was doing the same thing. The Supremes name was always in her billing, usually more prominently than her own name. Mary was losing a lot of bookings to these groups, so she sued. She lost
