I just came across the original recording of this great song:
Great ballad by an incredibly underrated band. Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel popped up when I was driving this evening and it sounded so good, I backed it up and played it again. I'd love to learn more about the Tavares brother.
They are a great group! I spent much of the summer of 1995 in their hometown of New Bedford, Mass. I finally got to see them perform live a big club on Long Island in 2006. By that time it was just 3 of the brothers. They could still sing like records and dance like nobody's business! A truly talented family. They are of Cape Verdean heritage. They started singing as kids. Their first group name was "Chubby and the Turnpikes" LOL!

Butch was married to that lovely Lola Falana back in the day. This is one group that could sing anything!
Remember this one from '76?
Remember and its flip side My Ship were two great songs. Also loved Whodunit. Great group!
This is the first song I remember hearing by Tavares. It was "Check It Out" from 1973:
They were a fabulous group! This is my fave:
All five brothers could sing lead which was unique.
Oh yeah,i saw tavares perform back in the day and they killed it[too late]is my fav from this great group.
Marv, get outta my head[hehe]i was just about to mention madame butterfly!
Love Tavares!!!!
Tavares recorded some great stuff. I especially love their "Hard-Core Poetry" and "In The City" CDs. If I had to choose just one of their songs as a favorite, it would be their duet with Freda Payne, "I Wanna See You Soon".

Tavares is easily one of my all time favorite groups. I have all of their 70s albums. So many great tunes. I think "Check It Out" is my favorite song of theirs.
Check this out! Do you recognize them?
Madame Butterfly has to be their most underrated song. I put it and Check It Out in the classic column. To bad that when dusty stations play a song by them, they tend to do their disco stuff over the ballads. That's very sad. I like The Ghost of Love also.
