I Love You Reassessed.

I’ve been playing this album quite a lot lately having come to appreciate its simplicity. Having waited so long for new product, i think most fans felt hugely let down wanting a contemporary sounding album instead.
Allowing for the general karaoke vibe, could I Love You be the equivalent of Billies Lady in Satin being Diana’s voice had started to decline and is second from last album she has recorded?.

I Want You and What about Love are nicely done. More Today wasn't bad but has been overly done live. The album belongs in the bin, rightly so.

i think most people felt Diana's vocals were good. clearly she had aged and her voice has deepened. but overall her tone and quality is quite lovely. the concept of the album [[all love songs) is a bit pedestrian but by this time, most fans would just be happy to have new material.

the real issue is the cheap karaoke quality of the production of the tracks. I can understand that there might not have been the budget for a full symphonic backing orchestra. but if the only thing budget would allow was a k-tel "You Sing The Hits" lp to which she recorded her vocals, then just pass on the project.

even if she had only gathered a simple backing back of bass, guitar, drums and keyboard. that would have been preferred

It’s kind of surprising that Diana wasn’t prepared to sink a little of her own fortune into the production of the album being as it was her legacy on the line.
I never really cared for it much at all, but have come to appreciate what it does have to offer in recent years. At least it’s not heavily auto-tuned which one can’t say of Thank You.
“I Love You” would have made for a nice single, featuring a rather lovely vocal from Diana.

Lovely Day from I Love You is excellent.

TY and If the World Just Danced from TY are good and the album received pretty good reviews and has some good Spotify numbers for several songs

But, I too, am generally stuck in the past with Blue etc

When I got to "To be Loved", I had to stop listening. It was a funeral dirge. I still can't believe that Steve Tyrell produced it because I have a number of his CD's and they are wonderful. I think she had a heavy hand in that one.
She had 2 great producers and good songs and managed to create something pretty awful.
