I read about that. Someone on another board, I think, said that Diana chose the track list herself.
Any idea what that track listing would be and if anything new will be on it ?
All I care about is the sound quality. If that isn't there, I have no interest.
Is this a Motown/Universal release? One or two CDs? Has the cover art appeared anywhere online yet?
It appears to be a 2 CD release from UMTV in the UK. Hopefully it will have a new studio track or two from Diana.

I really hate how Motown, or Hip-O mixes up a Motown solo artist's hits with the group they were once associated with. They do the same thing to Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Smokey Robinson, and now Diana Ross. I hate it!
This is worth having.
Big Bad Love, I've Got a Crush On You, and the songs all together without me having to make such a CD.
I realize it's mostly a rehash but new material from Motown stars is becoming more and more rare.
i cant imagine.why has this got to come out again, and again?and what does diana's picked the track listing mean?surely a greatest hits picks itself.not a hit, not on cd. diana picked it,just like she discovered the jackson five and presented them.
another thing, even if i wanted it, the tracks arent in order... 60's mixed in with 80's and 70's.why have the supremes been included?talking of which, suprise ,suprise, baby love is included.another reason to ignore it.imo of course.
its a release for releasing's sake.

The Supremes songs were included to make it appear that SHE had more hits. They really shouldn't be there if the package is going to be called a "Diana Ross Greatest Hits" CD. It seems like they release a greatest hits on her every other year and the it's the same old songs....... Maybe it's for the picture? It's very nice,b ut it is also very old.
Obviously this is a cash in just to get something selling on Ross. As far as Supremes material being included, why not? It's part of her body of work.
what about all the other drats cd's?
Assuming that there's still a decent market for CD sales in 'bricks and mortar' stores....
..did I read somewhere that supermarkets are only really interested in stocking/promoting new or fairly recent releases?
If that's true, and older titles still in print do not indeed fit into their marketing policy, then a release of greatest hits would perhaps effectively keep Diana Ross in the public eye for the lucrative Christmas sales period...??
By "supermarkets," I think you mean "super stores." These are the Wal-Marts, Targets, Best Buy, and so on, here in the U.S.
Yes, that has been true for some time. They don't even stock top 40 anymore; just top 10 maybe. All the chain "record" stores here in the U.S. have closed, at least here in the West. Perhaps there are still some back East; I don't know. But Tower, Wherehouse, Virgin, etc., those are all gone.
Los Angeles still has some independent sellers. Amoeba being the major example. Hopefully, it will do well for a long, long time.
kenneth
Yes, I guess 'super stores' is a better overall term, especially in relation to US.
Here in the UK, there are still supermarkets in town centres, offering a small selection of CDs.
The larger edge of town outlets are generally designated as 'super stores' ...with most selling food.
Yes, hopefully some of the small independents can and will indeed survive.
I live in a UK south coast town and, in the suburb where I work, I note that a small shop selling tobacco and smokers requisites, but mainly specialising in pipes, is still in business.
Can't remember the last time I saw someone smoking a pipe. Must be the internet keeps it going....
This is obviously a UK compilation.
The Supremes songs could have all easily been replaced with these solo songs:
ALL OF MY LIFE,
TOUCH BY TOUCH,
GETTING READY FOR LOVE,
EXPERIENCE,
YOUR LOVE,
HEART [[DON'T CHANGE MY MIND),
CRYING MY HEART OUT FOR YOU,
I WILL SURVIVE
WHEN YOU TELL ME THAT YOU LOVE ME [[With Westlife)
In fact, she charted more hits as a solo artist in the UK, then when she was with the Surpemes! Go figure!
Diana was in on this all right...........I'm Gonna Make You Love Me with the Temptations, Supremes and Four Tops; mention the Supremes on The Happening and You Can't Hurry Love but not on Where Did Our Love Go?, Stop in the Name Of Love, Reflections, Come See About Me, etc. Oh Right, they aren't on some of those songs anyways and she recorded them alone and didn't know who Motown stuck behind her.
So, right, she picked these and forgot all of who sang with her.
For the record [[no pun intended) and for accuracy, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard are singing on "Where Did Our Love Go?", "Stop in the Name Of Love", "Reflections", "Come See About Me". She knew who she was singing with on these songs because they were all there together.
Jobeterob mentioned that "I've got a crush on you" with Rod Stewart and "Big Bad Love" [[with Ray Charles) were on there. That makes this one different because this is the first time they are available on a Diana Ross set. Who knows, maybe in the coming months, Diana will tour over there and this is why they are releasing it. What I don't like is the order of the songs. No rhyme or reason.
There is a Facebook page asking for Diana to tour Europe next year; maybe there will be a European Tour and this is part of the cash in.
Methinks that the UK Christmas market is the only reason for this release!
Makes sense too; it is hardly worth putting out a CD anymore unless it's Christmas, there's a tour or you are Adele or Taylor Swift.
I would love another Christmas CD from Diana Ross. I'd love to hear her version of My Grown-Up Christmas List.
I guess I missed that part. Still, the track list looks like it was tailored for the American market and patterned after the American charts. In fact, in general, many comps created in the U.K. are meant for U.S. audiences because they know that's who wants them. After all, the U.S. domestic labels don't do the job.
The fact that this compilation includes "I'm Still Waiting", "Chain Reaction", "When You Tell Me That You Love Me", "Not Over You Yet" and "Stop, Look, Listen" indicated to me that this was a compilation tailored to the UK. Those songs were not hits in the U.S. "What A Wonderful World" was also recorded live in London.
I suppose these days, the product may come out of one market but it sells online all over the world.
This collection is a bit strange because it includes some fairly rare work and is all encompassing ~ but at the same time, the track list omits some names and includes others in error.
And Greatest Hits Collections just continue to sell year after year after year.
Well, true........
If you only have a couple of hits, you can label it as such, but it will hardly be noticed.
This is a nice line-up of songs, although nothing that I don't already have. But they could have been more imaginative with the artwork. This photo has already been used on two recent compilations.
I have seen two or three TV ads for this already - Universal UK must have decided to push it for the festive market
They have even created an official website for it:
http://www.umtv.co.uk/dianarossthegreatest/
Lookin more like a cashin for a tour.
UK TV promotion for new DR greatest hits CD .

i would have preferred if it had more solo tracks and no supremes tracks .there seem to be missing a few solo hits such as ALL OF YOU/REACH OUT ILL BE THERE/THOUGHT IT TOOK TIME TO FALL IN LOVE /ONE LOVE IN MY LIFETIME/GETTIN READY FOR LOVE
Ross greatest hits packages ALWAYS sell well in the U.K. If projects like this bring in the bucks - or should I say brings in a quid for Universal to finance other projects like 'More Hits Expanded', then I'm all for it.
Will this be for sale in America? I hope so. Diana Ross's music is so much fun.
NICE list Redlabs. I'd love to have some of those on a compilation as well. I don't mind there being Supremes tracks, it was a huge part of her career, and if it keeps more casual fans happy, then great. But, it would be best if they only used those to fill out the album AFTER they included all her great hits, instead of leaving some out for the Supremes tracks.
Laurel: I'm just guessing here, but I'd assume that it won't be sold here in America directly. However, after these things come out, places like Amazon and other sites typically get them here through independent sellers.
i forgot MISSING YOU,SWEPT AWAY,DIRTY LOOKS
Ok, just downloaded it from iTunes UK since they included the booklet with purchase so here's a few initial thoughts and spoilers....
Essay is nice [[author not listed) but does have a few minor typos that don't bother me personally but seem to send the diehards into a tizzy on this board so be forewarned. The photos are nice but no images we've haven't seen in some form before [[The 76 Greatest Hits Cover, the #1's cover with heads included, the One Woman Best of Cover, etc.)
Haven't listened to it all the way through but all the RCA years stuff carries the 1993 copyright so I suspect they pulled the Forever Diana / One Woman Ultimate tapes and used those when compiling however the few cuts I've gotten through sound better than those collections did. Single edits abound here, most in stereo but a few mono mixes as well. Diana is listed as executive producer, however, Debbie Sandridge compiled and sequenced it. The coordinator for Ms. Ross was Rosanne Shelnutt. No other thank you's or detailed info provided just a blurb to go to the official Facebook page. I think the last paragraph sums up the package perfectly...
"As the title of her current world circling tour suggests, Diana Ross is More Today Than Yesterday. she provides the soundtrack to the lives and loves of millions. Even with the ever shifting mores of popular taste, it is impossible not to hear Diana Ross' influence in today's transatlantic charts. From Baby Love to When You Tell Me That You Love Me with Westlife, she has visited the UK Top 10 in every decade from the 60's to the 00s. The Greatest is just that, Diana Ross's most memorable moments all in one place."
