As determined via a search of past postings on the MF, a total of 63-2 albums on one CD were released in the 1980's.
The first letter of the assigned catalog number was M/T/G Motown, Tamla, or Gordy. As far as I can determine the series ran from MCD-08000 to MCD-08058 then MCD-08159 to MCD-08162. A total issuance of 63 CDs.
I had forgotten about the Two Classics Albums One CD release from 1991
Diana Ross Presents the Jackson Five / ABC. It's catalog number was
Motown 440-014-380-2. I wonder during 1991 if this was the only one
2 albums on 1 CD that was released? It seems odd that only an isolated
one was released.
Can anyone shed any light on this whether or not this was the one and only released in 1991 or were there others?
It is extremely difficult to keep a record of the catalog numbers on CDs as one can do on 45s and albums. Does anyone know if there is a master listing or if none exists. I. E. Motown label 45s run consecutively, Gordy, and the rest the same.
Any help would be appreciated. It has always baffled me on their CD releases as there seems to be empty space vs the vinyl which rarely had any number empty spaces. Did they skip numbers?
Thanks.
