And therefore, she avoids sudden bursts of light or direct sun in her EYES.... she doesn't avoid light in general. I know all about this because I have the same condition. Mine was caused by looking directly at three sparklers being lit with each other at the same time, while my eyes were dilated from being in darkness. I avoid flash bulbs, and sun in the eyes... but I work outside every day for my career, there is no pain or discomfort involved in being outside... trying to drive into the sun, YES... but just being outdoors, NO. While camera flashes can give a person a temporary vision issue, they are never permanent and cannot damage your eyes. The condition is called phototoxic retinopathy.

Well, I had read in several places that it was a photographer's camera. No matter how it happened, it's really irrelevant to this charge that she bleaches her skin. I simply offered a possible explanation. The skin does get lighter if one avoids sunlight.

Ladonna, there are skin creams that bleach the skin. Hell, Michael Jackson even bleached his skin. Bleaching is used to even out skin tone on the body because it is not uniform on many people. Back in the old days, Black people bleached their skin to be more acceptable to society.

No... That would definitely not prove it. The one on the left is from a TV camera with the sun and ocean behind her; the other is with flash in a dark environment. Two totally different lighting conditions. In the sun, a camera iris has to be closed down to avoid over-exposure in the camera; At a reception where the room is dim, the camera iris would be opened more so folks show up better [[flash included).

While she may not be the same skin tone at her age, it doesn't have to be from "bleaching."

She has done something. No lighting or camera differences would changed a person's skin that much!

sadly, lighting may be the culprit, but the thing this entire thread is missing is that is impossible for one to bleach one's skin. my neice is 1/2 Black & 1/2 white[[Italian /American Indian decent) as a typical Florida girl, she loves the beach & gets quite dark when out in the sun. I can get almost as dark in the summertime. My brother Randy is much lighter skinned then me & my other brother.He would burn before turning as dark as us. In the 60's there were alot of photographers that sure didn't know how to photograph Black people. Remember that horible photo of Martha & the Vandellas where they looked like ghosts?
