    Happy birthday soulful detroit

Hard to believe another year has passed and we are now twenty years old. Hard to believe all those years have passed and we just keep growing. I would like to thank all the members who have participated and contributed to this forum, making it a place of interest in all things relating to music, and more. Without you this place could not exist. Big props for Brother Lowell for keeping the lights on and dealing with the various technicalities that occur from time to time. Time for a new year and new members and conversations. Once again, thanks to all of you. This place is most definitely as good as its members.

Most importantly, thanks to you Ralph, the backbone without which the site could never have survived, let alone thrived. Remarkable tenure and great stewardship. Thanks again

Trying to figure who is the longest member who still posts. I thought maybe Robb K.
He said maybe Stubass? Or is there any member from over the pond? I know it isn't me because I came right after them. Ralph, you have any idea?

  4. #4
Thank you for the kind words, Mike.
Moe. Robb and Stu are as good a guess as any. Both long term members. Heikki is another long time member. You may not be a right from the start member, Moe, but you have definitely spent some serious time here.

How did Marvin Davis rank? In terms of number of posts he holds the record, right? Still miss him terribly.

  6. #6
Yeah, Marv was here early on. I miss him also. He was controversial during the early days but that had nothing to do with his formidable knowledge, I finally got to meet the guy when he showed up at a book signing I was doing at the Motown Museum.

  7. #7
The leader in the total number of posts is held by westgrandboulevard. Had Marv not passed no one knows how that would've turned out. Marv still holds the #3 spot in total posts. And Sophisticated Soul is #2

  8. #8
That is it, Moe. I now dub thee "forum statistician."

  9. #9
Time goes super fast. Having said that, I want to thank Ralph, Lowell and all the members past and present for keeping SDF going. It's a good place to talk about music.

  10. #10
    LOL. Ralph!!
Twenty years is a long time! Not only is it a good place to talk music where else [over the years] have those we've admired "popped in" to discuss music with all of us.
    Happy 20th SDF!

Moe, I've pulled out some notes. The earliest ones I can find [and I feel sure there are even earlier ones here somewhere...] date from August 2012 onwards....and it appears that #3 became the highest placing that Marv2 ever achieved. It is rather fitting that Marv will now hold that position for many years, while his posts remain available for anyone to view.

Just for possible interest, here is the order of the Top 40 members on 31 August 2012, with their total posts to that date shown in parentheses :

And so, Moe, there you were, 'bubbling under' at #42.

I never thought I would see you now at #10....but then, I never thought I would see Boris Johnson at Number Ten, Downing Street....

And 9A is, right now, poised to enter Top 20 over the weekend...so it's also a good time to say "let's hear it for the ladies of Soulful Detroit"

Happy Birthday to Ralph and the gang...old and new, here and no longer with us... Lots of memories and lots of stories... 20 years certainly flies by... 8,400 posts... Where did I ever find the time LOL???...

  13. #13
    Thank you West Grand.

Yikes! Twenty years ago, I was already fifty. Time goes by so quickly, even a long life is not a long time. I am not a social media person by nature, I do not Facebook, IG etc. I came to SD via John Perrone's "Nightflight" show and stayed and I'm glad I did. The wealth of information is alone worth it. I have posted all over the forum at different times, but these days most of my posts are in the Clubhouse [It's my house and I live there . . .]. Many thanks to Ralph. And to Lowell. And a special shout out to my fellow Word Associates. You're the best.

Moe! I know you don't like me but calling me doo-doo publicly is a little harsh, don't you think!
All kidding aside I've enjoyed you becoming a Word Associate, stick around, you've got what it takes.

I think we joined the first version of the forum about the same. I don't remember exactly when I joined but always estimate it to be around 2003. SD is how we know each other. What journey indeed!

  24. #24
Then the three of us [Carlo, SS, & myself] all joined around the same time[the first version]
    And we're still here.......

Hi sophisticated_soul and Moe! Yes, we are still here

I remember most, if not all, of those screen names that westgrandboulevard shared above. Nice to be reminded of some of those names that I no longer see.

Happy Birthday, Soulful Detroit. Past and present...

Happy belated Birthday Soulful Detroit. Thank you Ralph and Lowell and for all the contributors. I've learned so much and been privy to knowing when and where special motown products were being thought of and released. Thank you for everything.

Happy belated Birthday to the Forum. What would I do without it? Be terribly uninformed, that's what!

  32. #32
Happy birthday SDF! I love us, although I must say it seems like some of you have way too much time on your hands! . Although, I probably shouldn’t say that, because extrapolating the statistics from 2012 and comparing them to my own stats, it looks like I’d at least be “bubbling under” the “bubbling under!”

Happy Belated Birthday to the Soulful Detroit Forum! Where else on earth could our favorite music remain so popular and relevant with music lovers around the world! Many thanks to Ralph and Lowell! And also to co-founding member David Miekle.

To Robb, Ralph, and Moe. I stand corrected in my above post.

Happy belated Birthday SDF. Wow, have I actually posted that much?

I came, I left and returned time and time again...I guess there is something to this SDF magic. I lurked for awhile and then Chi made a comment about Mother's Finest which I commented on and he made me feel welcomed. Whatever happened after that, blame it on Chi.

Hello to everyone I haven't spoken to for awhile and you know that includes you my little birthday sharing buddy. We will talk soon!

Thanks for all you do Ralph and a special thanks for not kicking me out of the joint. I GUESS, there would have been times it would have be warranted...maybe...kinda. LOL
