Interesting how Motown issues pop up, even after all these years. As a result of a thread elsewhere, I trawled the web for pictures of Motown Album Sales Director Phil Jones.
A few articles surfaced, and it transpires that he had a few writing "credits" on Motown songs. Apparently, he approached Mickey Stenson with an idea about " Motoring"....of course a track recorded by Martha & Vandellas.
Also..he has credit for "Say you" and " Never leave your baby's side" [[ both with Staunton & Walker). There may be more.
I have never heard of him in the role of a writer.
I wonder to what extent his musical input was?
If you are familiar with the photo of the Motown Mini competition, about 1968, then Phil Jones is the guy handing over the prize.
He later ran the Fantasy label.
With Motown , you live and learn all the time.
