John Perrone aka Midnight Johnny - RIP

Andy Skurow has just posted on his Facebook that John Perrone has died. I can only speculate at the cause of death as no details are known as yet.

    RIP John

Didn’t he work as a nurse at a hospital? Is that how he contracted it?

Sad news. John and I communicated over the years. He was such a valued member of the forum and was always a gentleman.

That is such sad news. I was in brief communication with him at several points through the years and he was always just the nicest person. May he Rest In Peace.

This breaks my heart. John will be deeply missed. I really enjoyed listening to his Tuesday night shows and the guest that he had. I even had the opportunity to speak with him a couple times on the phone and helped him put together his series where he played TCMS. He even told me about the Tammi T tapes He was a leader in keeping the Motown flame alive and I will miss him dearly.

Wow I am truly shocked, he was such a wonderful talent, may he Rest In Peace

Oh I am so saddened to hear this. He really conducted some very important interviews for Motown fans over the years: Kim Weston, Scherrie Payne, and others. He actively promoted the Hip-O and other releases over the years. I remember he had a whole program devoted to the Marvelettes box set.

He was the sweetest man. I used to call him the "Mandante" because he used to sing along in the background when he would play selections on his show.

Even sadder that it was because of the virus. How many wasted lives thanks to our government's incompetence and late action.

I found an article where his cousin confirms John died from the virus.

Sad news indeed. I first got in contact with John during the era of the Motown Yahoo Group and through that had several chats and e-mail exchanges. He would let me know when there was going to be something special on his radio programme so that I could plan to get up early, normally at 4am here in the UK, to hear his programme streamed on the internet.

I always found him a very pleasant and warm person. He will be sadly missed by many.

My condolences to his family at this very sad time.

Yes, it's very sad when it's someone you know who dies younger than his/her time because of the random attack of a disease. But, in this case he died because he was trying to help others, and helping them was so important to him, he was willing to risk his own life. We would hope every Human would be that noble. But, unfortunately many are not. So, we are even more happy to have known him than many of us had thought. He's the first person with whom I've had contact, that I know has died from the virus. I have two friends, about his age, who have been confirmed to have caught it, and seem to be well on the way to complete recovery [[we hope). I hope we won't hear any more bad news like this.

I found some additional info on the WOMR website. There is also a link to their archives to access a few of John's interviews with some Motown artists:

I remember several of us geeking-out on the forum during his show. It was fun when he would read through the posts. Someone posted his extended version of Doobedoo'doobe over in the ghetto and it brought back great memories of waiting for him to post his latest masterpiece. He is missed.

I’m still shocked and surprised by this. The USA has lost so many people.

I thought John had retired from his job?
