Former Gospel Stars member honored in Detroit

It is rare that you hear anything about the Gospel Stars. Lois Holden story.

What a great story...thanks for posting.

A gospel expert in my family checked this out. It is indeed true that one Lois Russell [[later Lois Holden) is listed by the Hayes/Laughton gospel discography as being on the March 1961 recordings in Detroit by the Gospel Stars.

Even more incredibly she is with the group on their earliest recordings in 1949! A track is on a compilation of gospel recently released called "Put The Whole Armour On".

Most Motown stars were toddlers in 1949. Stevie wasn't even born.

How many other R&B or gospel stars who recorded in the 1940s are still with us?

One thing that the media article did not mention is whether she is the ONLY SURVIVING member of the Gospel Stars ---- or are there others? More than likely not.
