    TV Show Theme Songs

I was wondering if any Motown artists ever sang a theme songs for any tv shows?

I know that Donny Hathaway did the theme song for "Maude", Al Jarreau did the theme song for "Moonlighting", Aretha did the theme song for "A Different World" and Bobby McFerrin did the theme song for a season of "The Cosby Show." That got me wondering about Motown artists.

Jim Gilstrap, being a top L.A. studio session singer appears on other themes and television and film works I'm sure...although most in a background capacity...

Though she wasn’t signed to Motown, Deniece Williams, once a member of Wonderlove, sang “Without Us”, the theme to the NBC sitcom “Family Ties”.

And erstwhile Motowner Sammy Davis, Jr. of course sang the theme to "Baretta."

Valerie Simpson worked with Quincy Jones on Stuff Like That, contributing both lyrics and vocals, in the 1978 original version and in a 1995 revamp. The latter was used in a TV commercial for GAP maybe a half-dozen years later and may have been heard far more often than theme songs for actual TV themes.

Joe Harnell, who did one album on Motown's V.I.P. label, "Moving On!!", on 1969.
