Just got this awful news. Do we definitively know that it was cancer? All the coverage I've seen has not confirmed that.

    Brain cancer.

Man, this hurts. I challenge you to find a more distinctive voice than James Ingram's from the '80s. As soon as he started singing you knew who you were listening to. Too young to be missed.

    Remember?

The two 80s duets with Patti Austin -- "Baby Come To Me" and "How Do You Keep The Music Playing" -- are awesome. Still listen to them today. RIP

He's not known for many jams but this is one of my favorites. This song sounds great when I turn it up.

That cancer DOES suck!!!!! RIP Mr. Ingram. Is he at all related to Luther Ingram [[If Loving You Is Wrong)? Luther passed in 2007.

No. James was from Akron, Ohio and his brother Phillip Ingram was an original member of Switch.

    ah, sad to hear.

Admittedly by the mid-eighties I was paying less attention, but for me, James Ingram was perhaps the last male vocalist whose voice had a tone and delivery style that drew me in. Sort of a Teddy Pendergrass meets Luther Vandross quality.

Quincy Jones and Gladys Knight each paid tribute reported Variety:

"Another dear friend has made his transition,” Gladys Knight said in a statement.

"James Ingram, a voice to be recognized and revered, a wonderful human being full of joy. Truly deep, heartfelt condolences to his wife and his family. He will be missed and may he now rest peacefully.” Gladys Knight
Love this song's message and the way James' delivers it.

    Still sounds good.
    RIP James Ingram

Technically he was one of the finest male vocalists i have ever heard. This guy should have been a superstar. He had a fair few hits, but for some reason he remained underrated and underappreciated. I couldn't believe it when he was dropped by his record company in the 90's. We were deprived of 20 years of great singing. I am greatly saddened by his untimely passing. May he r.i.p.

I remember how cool I thought he looked on the Yah mo be there video😁. Hmm, maybe not now. How many Quincy Jones classics did he show up on backing vocals? You'd spot him every time. Mystery of love - Donna Summer. Do you love me - Patti Austin. Terrible news RIP sir

James' part, although brief on "We Are the World" is most memorable:
