No. James was from Akron, Ohio and his brother Phillip Ingram was an original member of Switch.

Admittedly by the mid-eighties I was paying less attention, but for me, James Ingram was perhaps the last male vocalist whose voice had a tone and delivery style that drew me in. Sort of a Teddy Pendergrass meets Luther Vandross quality.

Quincy Jones and Gladys Knight each paid tribute reported Variety:

"Another dear friend has made his transition,” Gladys Knight said in a statement.

"James Ingram, a voice to be recognized and revered, a wonderful human being full of joy. Truly deep, heartfelt condolences to his wife and his family. He will be missed and may he now rest peacefully.” Gladys Knight

Love this song's message and the way James' delivers it.

Technically he was one of the finest male vocalists i have ever heard. This guy should have been a superstar. He had a fair few hits, but for some reason he remained underrated and underappreciated. I couldn't believe it when he was dropped by his record company in the 90's. We were deprived of 20 years of great singing. I am greatly saddened by his untimely passing. May he r.i.p.
