This was from Dionne's production CELEBRATE THE SOUL OF AMERICAN MUSIC. It was a very good show that aired for three or four years. Too bad they aren't still doing it.
I remember watching this. From the early 90s right?
Never heard of this show! Tell us more!!!
It was a yearly special that was produced by Dionne Warwick and Don Jackson, I believe. It was called CELEBRATE THE SOUL OF AMERICAN MUSIC and it paid tribute to artists that you didn't normally see honored, such as the Shirelles, Bobby Blue Bland, LaVern Baker, the Dells, etc. The last show I remember had the Pointer Sisters amongst its honorees.
Each act would have a musical tribute paid to them by a contemporary act like En Vogue, Levert, Vesta Williams, Oleta Adams, etc., and then if they were still alive, they would accept their award.
The show began in the early 90s, I believe, and aired via syndication. Hosts over the years included Dionne, Diahann Carroll, Charles S. Dutton, and Philip Michael Thomas, among others.
