    Jobete

Just listening to an interview with Jimmy Webb on BBC Radio 2 here in England where he reminisces about being a staff writer employed by Jobete, pronounced Jo-beat. Always thought the correct pronunciation was Jo-bee-tea but jo-beat makes more sense as a music publisher.
What is concidered as the correct pronunciation.

I've always heard it pronounced as Jo-bet, and named for Berry's oldest children: [[Hazel) Joy, Berry, and Terry.

Well, for 40 years I've had it wrong, think it must have been the first time I had heard anyone refer to it. Thanks for that.

As far as I'm concerned, the fantastic musical compositions of Berry Gordy's publishing can be pronounced by the effect hearing those songs gave me; Joy - Be - Me!

I remember having the news broken to me that the pronunciation of ‘Jobete’ is actually “jo-bet”... I’d never even said it out loud before but it had always been “jo-beat” in my head... oh well, lol

They called it "Jo-Bet" at Motown. That's why it was misspelled several times as "Jobette" Music.

I thought of it "in my head's 'voice' as "Jo-Beat", for the few years before I was told that was wrong.

    I have always thought/known it was Jo-bet.

I am surprised at the Jo-beat.

But it could have been Jo - beat - a.

Grammatically, it should be pronounced Jo-Beet , but I always heard it pronounced Jo Bet and that is how I always pronounced it.

This was discussed here years ago

Since the word was invented by Berry Gordy, and Ralph worked with Motowners and pronounces it Jo-Bet [[see link below), I will stick with that pronunciation.
