Even Little Lisa sang Christmas songs!
The O'jays: "Chritsmas Ain't No Chritsmas Without The One You Love"

From their years in Neptune Records.
Slow down Robb.....You've been on some deep dives.....I've gotta get all these in by midnight.
Are those the "She Blew A Good Thing" Poets?
Here's another one of my Top Ten Faves. This is the kind of stuff they used to play in the VFW on North and Barclay.....with the red and green plastic lanterns around the bar and dancefloor. Collard Greens and BYOB.
I give you the Master of the B3. B3 guys always seem to have the Wickedess Drummers. This is no exception. Every time I hear the kettles, my hand goes straight to Volume. When he comes back in for the intro to the second verse.....goddam!....Make you lose your sobriety.
A co worker familiar with my Taste gave me the Have Yourself a Jazzy Little Christmas compilation about 20 years ago. Been loving it ever since.
My second fave for this disc is "We Free Kings" by another hero of mine, Rashaan Roland Kirk.
Played this 3 times last night in the car off my Christmas USB.
Only Brook Benton can sing, "If Santa had black kinky hair"......and sound velvety smooth.
This was easily the fave Christmas song with the teens I used to carpool back in the BSA high school days.
WARNING FOR LANGUAGE:
Speaking of BSA....Every year they put on a concert on the last day of school before Christmas break. I recorded a sideways clip of Dije singing Chestnuts at the Christmas Program at BSA.....which is not your typical Christmas Assembly. The chorus, a Big Band that was off the charts and worthy of Paid Admission with vocalists and a Gospel segment.
Each lead had to come up with their own arrangements. I think she did well, especially the closing segment.....and I'm tough on her.
Hi Destruction. YES, The Poets above were the same group that sang "She Blew A Good Thing". A great group!
I don't knows if "Blue Star" by The Blue Notes is a Christmas song, but sound to my ears like is it [[I don't understand the lyrics):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0CR7FY_DYU
Anyway a intense doo-wop / soul balad [[specially the strings version)
A few of the Country [[does anyone still say 'C&W') Christmas songs I play every year include:
Carolina Christmas - Austin Rudy
Driving Home for Christmas - Chris Rea
Christmas Down South - Charlie Daniels Band
John Berry's version of O Holy Night
This is one that I currently look forward to:
"He threw a present real hard
And almost hit mom's new boyfriend Ray"
The girls and I used to sing in the car [[van back then) all the time in their early school days.....especially at Christmas. This is one of the few that they liked me on lead. They both loved the background and my youngest loved doing the bass fills.
Part 2 of a Double Gospel Whammy
Romantic Christmas:
Made it through page 2.
Pansy Division is the most subversive thing I've heard since Little Hummer Girl....I likey.
I love the Chance Record Label.....my youngest grand, and listening partner, JQ said that's not her fave Moonglows songs....too sad.
She also said that the Big Dee Irwin and Little Eva song sounds like Charlie and Inez Fox' of Mockingbird fame.
We both thought the Sounds of Blackness Soul Holidays was great and much funkier than the Whispers' Funky Christmas. She asked if there are just 2 members or more.
The George Michael tribute song to Gloria Gaynor was just surreal.
I also loved the Nic Nacs and Mable Scott.
Here is another that I play every year. It wasn't until about the third listen that I actually listened to the verses......and now I understand the song.....before it just sounded cool.
Somebody thought this was a good idea.
I've heard variations on this theme.
And JQ heard this in the car this morning and asks me to post it.
As we approach the New Year..........
Here's one that makes my Playlist and Christmas List every year:
Captain & Tennille with the Pointer &
Tenille Sisters
Christmas has come and gone but I thoroughly enjoying the Christmas project from PJ Morton. This Mariah Carey remake features Stokely of Mint Condition
Merry Christmas Soulful Family
One of my all-time favorites........
Though Christmas is over this clip of Eddie Levert, Levert, Pop Winans and The Winans is definitely worth watching.
