First, here's one from 1977 that's been totally slept on...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgQB3vhFToA
Lonnie Smith - 'When The Night Is Right'. GREAT, GREAT !!!
Also from the same LP [['Funk Reaction') 'It's Changed' & 'Funk Reaction'
Don Blackman - 'Hearts Desire' [[More Jazz-Funk, but SLAMMIN'!!!)
Joe Thomas - 'Coco' [[From 'Feelin's Deep Within' LP)
War - 'H2Overture' & "City, Country City'
Bob James - 'Nautilus', 'Westchester Lady, 'Look Alike', 'Take Me To The Mardi Gras' & 'Sign Of the Times'
Gato Barbieri - 'Fiesta'
Herbie Hancock - 'Chamelion', 'Fat Albert Rotunda', 'Fat Mama', 'Tonight's The Night' [[fea. Vicki Randle), 'I Thought It Was You' [[Ok...more of a Jazz meets Disco-Funk cut, but it MOVES!)
The Headhunters - 'God Make Me Funky'
Donny Hathaway - 'Voices Inside [[Live)',
Believe it or not, a couple from Rhythm Heritage - 'Sky's The Limit' & 'Skippin'
I fear that not all of these are Jazz/Fusion in the strictest of terms!
See....I saw this earlier.....and I was gonna stop it....but once you opened the gates from ChiD....I knew that Gee would follow....then Juice.....later it'll be Splanky......... They we'll have to clean up all over again.
Can I have a lil "All Night Long"....ans self titled Stanley Clarke pls?
How 'bout some Stanley Clarke from his Nemperor days.....some Jorge Dalto, John Klemmer, Gene Harris....and if you get into looong sides, The Atlantic Family "Live At Montreau". Then maybe some "Snowblower" from The B. Baker Chocolate Company and if ya feel me, some "Thunderfoot" from the Sudan Village lp by Seals & Crofts [[if that's not too funky for ya) and maybe some Tony Williams from "The Joy of Flying" album...then just a smidgen of Ronnie Foster to smooth it all out.
BTW...anything written/produced by The Mizell Brothers is slammin'....but you can start with Bobbie Humphrey's "Harlem River Drive" and Dr. D. Byrd's "Places and Spaces or "Dominoes".
I'm with 1Wicked, but please add "Sweetnightner by Weather Report, and Lasanas Priestess by D Byrd.
AND...you can drop the needle on track one of Hubert Laws "Say It With Silence" & just let it play !
Great Stuff!!
If you're hip to the Crusaders live version of "So Far Away", that's one worth adding to your playlist. If not, I'll be playing it tonight,in less than a 1/2 hour from now.
http://whpk.org and iTunes.
Yes, I am one of the DJs from the Dusties Party. :-) As a matter of fact, I'm playing "So Far Away" right now.
Cool ! Thanks for listening. You can find that version of "So Far Away" on either the live album entitled "Scratch" or the 2 record set "Best of the Crusaders."
