I actually heard Deon sing "Love Makes The World Go Round" at the Go Go Lounge in December 1965. He called me in January of 1966 to go to a show he was on in Newark, N.J. at the Branford Theater where I also saw The Capitols, Barbara Lewis, Walter Jackson, Sam & Dave and others..........

Sister, first of all the fact that you got to be one of the very first people to hear that song makes me a bit jealous LOL! Next you actually saw the Capitals live? Whew.......... you probably know that Deon, Barbara Lewis and the Capitals are all from Michigan and I had never got to see any of them live before. Add in the other great artists and I would have been in Soul Music Heaven! The package shows that they had back then just could not be beat nor the ticket prices~! Was the Branford decent size?

Wow now you guys got me all misty over here,what a great,great year for music,a song that often gets overlooked and for some insane reason didn't sell that well,the absolutley incredible beauty written by curtis mayfield for patty labelle and the blubelles...[i'm still waiting]this song is an absolute gem and i'm sure that all here will agree.

That's one of the things I loved about those days. So many talented artists worked together to bring great music and entertainment to the public. They were not as hung up on ego and dollars like today.

Deon, The Capitols, & Barbara were all in Ollie McLaughlin's stable of Artists from his labels.
Yes, The Capitols were fabulous singing & dancing!!!
The Branford was a decent size theater, I remember having to go like around a corner alley to get to the backstage door. There were cats shooting dice in the hallway backstage, talking mess and so on in the heat of the competition, Deon didn't want me exposed to that so he wisked me into the dressingroom quickly, lol, it was all new and interesting to me.

There were two theaters in Newark that put on big stage shows, besides the Branford there was the Adams Theater, this was long before Symphony Hall.
Your right, I was lucky to see many of these shows from N.Y. to D.C. in the mid to late 1960's on the Chitlin` Circuit.

One old friend of over 49+ years visited me last week at my home in Las Vegas and I was a guest at his show at the Orleans Casino, that was Eugene Pitt [[The Jive Five).

Have Mercy! Percy Sledge who just passed this week, I was on a couple shows he was on back in 1966 & 1967, one was at the Howard Theater in D.C. with The Intruders, Howard Tate, Sad Sam, etc..... Another was in N.J. [[forgot the town) with Jackie Wilson, The Five Stairsteps, etc......
