Usually an intro to a song can set the tone for the entire song. There are some songs that have intros that are more memorable than others. Here are a few of my favorite songs with great intros. What are yours.
This one you can't deny

Produced by Rick James
One of my fav subjects...the snardrums that open[girl why you wanna make me blue]..the almost mystical harp in[i'll try something new]..the soulful singing intro[when you walked in]..the funky guitar that opens[i'll be around]..the sweet bells of[i'm so proud]..the jammin sax of[shotgun].
The piano solo before "The Temptations on It's Growing".
I don't know how to link things, but best intro of all time to any song has to be Etta James' version of "Gotta Serve Somebody." I have other favorite intros but that one has to be tops.
The intro to "Dancing In The Street" is one of the best EVER.The sound of the 60's.
Here's one by The Spinners with a great guitar intro.
~~Mary~~
This has to be one of the greatest rock and roll intros of all time - CLAPTON!
~~~Mary~~~
I'll stick my guys in here. The opening plaintive "cry, cry, cry" stands out as a great intro.
~~~Mary~~~
Here's another intro I've always loved - the 1969 version of this classic by The Dells.
~~~Mary~~~
Talking of the Dells, this one had a memorable intro, and was another classic :-
Place saver
How does one copy the entire video into a thread post? When I copy the URL I just get a link to the You-Tube page. I have gotten the entire video doing it this same way in the past. Why doesn't that work now?
Robb,
Just click the 'Insert Video' icon [[resembling a filmstrip, second from right at the top of 'Quick Reply' bar next to the 'Wrap Quote' icon), and paste the url of the video you want to show in the thin box.
Cheers
My favorite intro is probably Louis Satterfield's bass intro to Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me".
The guitar on Soul Man by Sam & Dave is THE classic intro for Southern Soul, in my opinion. I'm not sure if Otis' intro to I've Been Loving You Too Long counts, but just the voice with no music sets up that song perfectly. And the sheer patience that Isaac Hayes used on Theme From Shaft makes its intro worthy as one of the greatest ever.
no one has mentioned Robert White's guitar into to My Girl
"[[For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People" has what is probably the most arresting intro that I've ever heard. In fact I've not come across anything else like it either before or since.
For many of us born in the '60s, Parliament's 'Flash Light' became an anthem of our youth. Even now, when the keyboard intro announces the song at parties, people hit the floor knowing what's next. It's not a long intro, but it's iconic for many of us.
