Hey hope all is find...I'm next, tomorrow Jazz Festival in Montreal.
She gave a great show, but the audience was lackluster. The audience only came alive during I will survive...the last song. I liked that she show cased her singers in Ease on Down the Road...which got some of the audience up....the sax man in The Look of Love, and the horn section who were really cooking. The intro prior to I'm Coming Out was techno and very percussion based, lots of high energy. I had a great time!
Johnbell enjoy your concert....she'll be superb I'm sure.
I don't like that she's showcasing her backpart singers in her shows lately. They should be hidden behind a thick curtain or put in the pit, and they should be mic'd at a level between faintly ambient and non-existent.
Background singers should never be showcased; it will give them ideas about their lowly station in life. I just hope the show was delayed the other night because someone performed an intervention with MIss Ross and told her to stop it with featuring her backpart singers and get back to her old self. I love you, I love you, I love you is something to be said to audience members, not something to be practiced on measly backpart singers.
I was at this show too and it was great, but honestly lacked energy in comparison to the show she did in Detroit last summer. At Casino Rama, she sounded fantastic and looked great, but I could tell that she was maybe annoyed. The show started 75 mins later than it was supposed to and then there were a few technical issues and she complained to a stage hand at one point in the middle of a song. The audience sucked and was so lifeless. Basically just a lot of high rollers who got free tickets. The people behind me appeared to be tourists who sat there expressionless in their seats. There was no encore and some said it was because she had to rush off the stage to meet and greet VIP casino members. Most of this had more to do with the venue than with Miss Ross. Will likely be the last time I go to see her at this casino, as I heard there were also technical issues during her show the last time she was there.
The delay was said to be due to travel/weather conditions, which made it difficult for Miss Ross' plane to land at a nearby private airport. At the end of the evening, the diva rumours started and someone said they heard from a staff member that she had been there, staying at the casino the night before the show. Who knows. lol.
To sum it up, Diana delivered a great show and I will always continue to go see her, just never again at this venue.

I agree, Lulu. This was my sixth time seeing her in the last 15 years and the first time she was late.
This was a delay out of her control and no drama involved here.
She received exceptional reviews at Montreal's Jazz Festival the following 2 days.
People around me had their tickets given to them by "gold members"...they were OK, but not into it. I was moved a number of times to get up and move but sat back down because I was up by myself. At the end I did go up to the front and that made the evening for me...she was making eye contact with that crowd. When I got back to my row my partner was sitting with everyone else....still, a guy who rarely applauded said to sit back down for her encore....said there's no encore, that's it.....wanted to say, 'you sat on your hands all night, why would she bother'. Always go to see her, just pick your crowd.
