Most of the strings to this J5 classic weren't used in the final mix. Overall, I think they made the right decision..

Definitely. It was perfect.
Agreed. The strings throughout would have taken away the song's funkiness.
sorry I kind of like it ,,,,Funk with a hint of classical.
This mix has a "symphonic soul" groove somewhat in the vein of Gordon Staples.
I disagree. I liked it and the funk would have remained with the strings included. Oten, I like the instrumental part of a song more than the vocal.
Underneath many of Motown's songs, there is an entirely different symphonic song. Listen to the Detroit Strings by themselves doing Marvin and Tammi's Ain't Nothing LIke The Real Thing. It is beautiful just as it is. Many people may not even give the strings any notice in the Marvin and Tammi song. But after listening to the song below with just the strings, listen to the complete version with Marv, Tam and all the funk. Now you'll have no choice but to hear those strings and they take nothing away from the funk.
Here is the full version
Strings would have made it sound schmaltzy, and too soft, especially since the next single was "I'll Be There".
As a Classical Music fan then and now, I really liked the strings.
The Love You Save with all this strings can be heard on the J5 LP Greatests Hits Quadraphonic Japanese edition.....this LP is a true gem, it contains also alternate vocal take of Sugar Daddy, I'll Be There, I Found That Girl and ABC, also contains alternate mix of I Want You Back....i'd love to see one day a cd release of this quad version LP
I checked youtube for that album with no luck, never even heard of it before. Anyway, to
each it's reach. I like the released version of TLYS, had it but hey I wish these cats would release this...
