But, what do I know, a million bought it first time round. And I cant buy a Supremes or Motown collection where this damn tune is not included. Anything by Rick James!
Most of the songs on this thread are, sadly, the only ones my generation [[Gen Xers / Gen Y) knows when they hear the word "Motown." On the bright side, at least they can name *something*, so I have hope that the Motown / Tamla heritage won't be lost to time [[can't say as much for Stax / Volt). Thank you HW, Classic Motown and Hip-O Select for lavishing love and attention on rereleases of the lesser-known gems...

LOL........I don't like Sexual Healing either; but one of my favorite Supremes songs ever is Where Did Our Love Go and it is high on this list.
Ralph!.........I'm sure he appreciated the light moment and the fact he didn't have to throw any chairs for once.
I love these songs, but I think I've heard them enough for one lifetime. lol.
1. My Girl
2. My Guy
3. Stop! In The Name Of Love
4. Baby Love
5. I Can't Help Myself
..just "baby Love"
I never liked Marvin's "Grapevine" in the first place... every time it comes on the radio I turn the station. i'm sick of Baby Love, too. However, I NEVER get tired of Gladys' version of Grapevine. I never liked "My girl" either. the song bores me. But I never ever get tired of Stoned Love, it's just goodness after goodness.
Ever since the California Raisins commercial from the 80s...
I never liked it. Too simple. Probably why it shot to #1.i'm sick of Baby Love, too.
Especially the MONO single mix! However, I NEVER get tired of Gladys' version of Grapevine.
Aw girl! You just lost me. I *never* get tired of "My Girl". It's one of the first Motown 45s I ever heard. I hope you're talking about hating the stereo mix, because the MONO single mix is vastly superior.never liked "My girl" either. the song bores me.
without a doubt, baby love. Sometimes I think the radio stations consider that this was the only record from the Supremes! It's vile, over played, over rated, and I just won't play it.
Perhaps we ought to do what they did with the disco records 20-30 years ago. Go to a stadium and burn all our baby love records!
I'm not keen on Marvin's 'grapevine' but I can just tolerate that one.
i agree with the gladys "grapevine" and what about bobby taylors version thats great too
"Baby Love" is my choice, and looks to be the clear "winner" [[or loser?). It's not that I can't stand it, but like others, think it's well overexposed.
Sorry, soulster... I don't like "My girl" in any way, shape, or form, I never did. I get sick of the temps ALOT, that never happens with Gladys or the Four Tops, though. I could listen to "Bernadette" all day long.
"Stoned Love"
"Nathan Jones"
"Floy Joy"
"Master Jammin"
"Sir Duke"
So are we all agreed? BABY LOVE?
paulo seconded!
"Happy Ghoul Tide" and "Randy The Newspaper Boy"-Ray Oddis
"Blue Cinderella"-Joel Sebastian
"Pushing Up Daisies"-Stylers
Anything by Rare Earth
"I'm Hooked"-Bunny Paul
"Fire"-Gino Parks
almost everything after 1972
"They Rode Through The Valley"-Mickey Woods
"I Comma Zimba Zio"-Abdullah
The Chuck-A-Lucks on Mel-O-Dy
The Headliners, Underdogs and Hornets on VIP
Most of the above I've heard only once, but it was too much.
I've heard "Baby Love" too much.

Here's my 5th--Rhythm of the Night-DeBarge.
The tally up to this point of the Motown Singles we are sick of hearing:
1. Baby Love
2. I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
3. My Girl - Temptations
4. I Can't Help Myself - 4 Tops
Stop in the Name of Love - Supremes
6. Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes
Dancing in the Street - Martha and Vandellas
Where Did Our Love Go - Supremes
Well, i'm NOT sick of hearing "I Can't Help Myself" or "My Girl", but I don't think anyone's mentioned "I'll Be There" by Four Tops or "Ill Be There" by the Jackson 5.
Robb_k; I wasn't familiar with a lot of those, but I've read how legendarily bad "Custer's Last Man" by Popcorn & the Mohawks was [[it's on the Complete Motown Singles Vol. 1). I think even ONCE would be too many times based on the snippets I've heard!

Baby Love and Dancing in The street are two songs that are overplayed.
Although My Girl gets overplayed to death sometimes, I'm not sick of it.
I accessed this thread in order to list just one recording: Baby Love. I am sorry that I can't be more original, but it truly is the one Motown single that I no longer care for due to its overplay and inclusion on nearly every Motown compilation.
Jim
Wow you guys hit some of the classic's hard.
Yes, I should have also listed "Custer's Last Man", which I played only once after buying it, unheard. Hearing it once was "too much". All Bob Kayli's were also not worth hearing.

The Supremes' 12 number-one hits lol
Just kidding, I can never get tired of hearing the Motown songs that get more play than other songs.
Robb K.......how can you say that about Small Sad Sam! It even had a child like Diana Ross shadowing his vocal!
Good thing I never told Robert to his face that I didn't like his songs. Nothing againt him as a singer, but his material was awful.
Well......it was more talking and pretty weak material, but I think it has historical value for that background.
There are some superb chords in Jimmy Mack - I could never tire of hearing that, but Dancing In The Street [[overplayed) and Nowhere to Run [[over-rated) have boring chord progressions and would feature on my list. Much as I love Marvin and Tammi, their Ain't No Mountain High Enough I've heard too many times [[and I prefer the Diana Ross [[even Vikki Carr) treatment). Endless, pointless, compilations don't do the Motown cause any favours. Then there's Happy Birthday and Masterblaster by Stevie. My 5 I guess!
Well ..
I've grown immune to "Baby Love" over the years .. I used to love it in 1964/65 then grew tired of hearing it by 1975 .. largely as any British Rock/Pop D.J. who had a limited knowledge of Soul/R&B and felt the need to play a "Motown" song to "keep the Soul fans happy" would play it .. more recently I've started to enjoy hearing it again ..
But .. mega-hits that always make me cringe are
"Endless Love" - DIANA ROSS AND BILLY PRESTON
"I Just Called To Say I Love You" - STEVIE WONDER
"Indiana Wants Me" - R DEAN TAYLOR
And .. over the years I've gone off "Dancing In The Streets" by MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS
and "I Can't Help Myself" by THE FOUR TOPS is wearing thin on me too ..
BUT .. I have a feeling that if I don't hear those last two for a year or so they will start to sound GREAT again!!
Roger
I guess Im not alone in being tired of Baby Love but the one that trumps them all that when I hear it I cringe and switch the station and its Tamla is Superstition I am sick and tired of hearing that song! Sorry Stevie.
In fact this is a nonsense thread. If it were applied to non-Motown music, nobody would dive into it that deep.
I prefer to save my own good memories for my own good music and I will not share those feelings to the core with humorless people on this forum! There, you have it.
