"Nighflight" Tue Jul 23, 9P-12M ET: Summer [[the Last Time)!

Howdy, Nightflight Night Owls! Well...the simmer in the Summer has abated a bit...at least up here on Old Cape Cod. Even though we're in the throes of the hottest season, my tribute to Summer reaches it's zenith tonight with Part 2 of a 2 Part Summer tribute...hence "Summer [[the Last Time)" [[to paraphrase Mr Goldsboro). And since you heard Millie Jackson's version last week...you'll hear Bobby's magnificent version tonight, along with a ton of Summer songs...rare and wonderful, from Motown to Pop....Jazz to Soul! I'll do my best to cool off the heatwave. All YOU have to do is...
join me tonight....on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans
and we are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org/listen/online
    Thanks!
    John

It's a beautiful 78 degrees with a gentle breeze here in San Diego. A great day for more Summertime music. I'll see you and the gang on the Radiola. Umbrella, beach towel and transistor radio in tow. Oops, wrong era.

Slathered on some Coppertone because I don't want to get a nasty sunburn from the heat your summer playlist will be bringing to my radio.... See everyone shortly!

"Summer's Almost Gone" from my favorite Doors album "Waiting For The Sun", which oddly enough does not contain the song "Waiting For The Sun" which was on their follow-up album "Morrison Hotel".

Imagine how much more soulful and less virginal Robin Ward would've sang that song if the guy who gave her the most wonderful summer of her life had actually "given it" to her.....

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I saw Brenda Holloway perform "Summertime"? That many times, huh. Yikes! I have so few claims to fame I have to ride that one 'til the wheels fall off! LOL!!

It would have ended badly. Unwanted pregnancy, forced marriage, poverty, drugs, abuse, etc. Then eventually an episode of "Southern Fried Homicide". Not as pretty a song.

That all sounds like the long lost follow up to "I'm Livin' In Shame".....

Thanks John. Thanks Glen, and all. Looking forward to next week, it's definitely time for a remix show! See you all then. I'm so glad we had this time together . . .
