How strange. Most people I know have pretty varied tastes. Maybe people who post on specialist forums have to be protective of their music . I almost picked Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as my worst song because I think it's just pretentious drivel, but there are plenty of other Queen songs [[Somebody to Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love) that I do like.
There are a lot of songs from the 60s that I didn't like at the time, but when I hear them now, they sound good. I guess I just grew out of my narrow-mindedness.
I don't see the conflict. Ostentation was part of Freddie Mercury's character. I have to admit that I love "Barcelona". That really comes off.
Im not sure I would call it narrow mindedness. If you dont like something you dont like it although I do understand that tastes can change over time. Having said that I vehemently hate every record Queen ever made and know that feeling will never change. On the other hand, I feel no need to defend my music - soul - from what others think. It always amuses me when people get upset - and they really do - because someone has the temerity to dislike a song on Youtube. Who cares what negative things other people say about songs one loves ?
Worst Motown song:
The Happening-The Supremes-totally wretched.
Worst song overall:
I'd Do Anything For Love [[But I Won't Do That)-Meatloaf
@soulster about musical apartheid: same can be said for some R&B lovers [[lurk on prince.org, you see how much love rock music gets over R&B, i.e., not much).
Anyways worst songs ever written include:
My Neck, My Back
Friday [[one of the worst ever lol)
Anything by Justin Bieber
I agree about "I Never Been to Me", Motown was going through a weird phase then
Anything by Adam Lambert
Sorry 2004 by Ruben Studdard
Janet Jackson's later recordings
Madonna's American Life
Anything from Mariah Carey's post 1997 recordings [[I like Beautiful with Miguel though)
Most of Lady Gaga's songs lol
Beyonce's "I Been On/Bow Down"
MacArthur Park I never cared for either
Claire by Gilbert O'Sullivan [[not only bad but creepy in a pedophiliac way)
ALL Pat Boone songs except the covers
----
That's all I can think of atm.

First song that came to my mind....yes !Tip Toe Through The Tulips" ~ Tiny Tim ~ Just may be the WORST!!!

I'm sorry, I just don't associate Pat Boone with Ain't That a Shame and Tutti Frutti/Long Tall Sally so those songs are not his.
I'll never understand how or why most people limit themselves to only one or two types of music. There is something good in everything. I do generally hate opera and reggae, but there are a few things I do like in those genres as well.
I like x-rated stuff like that. I just think of that song [[and the male version of it) as a harmless joke.Anyways worst songs ever written include:
My Neck, My Back
People really hate the song. I don't see why. It's a parody, not to be taken seriously.Friday [[one of the worst ever lol)
The only thing Motown had going in 1981-1982 was Rick James, Jermaine Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Dazz Band. Teena Marie was suing, they were trying to find ways to capitalize on Michael Jackson's back catalog, and DeBarge didn't yet become a hit machine. Solar Records was kicking Motown's butt. Maybe it was around the time Berry Gordy started thinking about getting out of the game. Who knows...I agree about "I Never Been to Me", Motown was going through a weird phase then
"All For You" was the last listenable album she made.Janet Jackson's later recordings
To hell with her artistic freedom. She made her best recordings at Columbia. Maybe she never should have married Tommy Mattola.Anything from Mariah Carey's post 1997 recordings [[I like Beautiful with Miguel though)
I like most of her hits, mostly from "The Fame Monster". "The Edge Of Glory" is good too. Most of Lady Gaga's songs lol
I always liked it, but Richard Harris' singing is over the top.MacArthur Park I never cared for either
Haha! I like songs like that! But, it is about him babysitting his little niece. I'll bet he never thought about how creepy it sounded, though.Claire by Gilbert O'Sullivan [[not only bad but creepy in a pedophiliac way)
After discovering he's a damn tea-bagging birther, I even got rid of that CD of metal covers. Too bad it was good.ALL Pat Boone songs except the covers
^ You seriously bought that record? LOL
I think My Neck My Back is catchy. I doubt Khia was thinking about creating a masterpiece, she knows she's ratchet at least lol I like it too but it's argued it's a badly written song lmao
As for Gilbert, yeah but the lyrics still doesn't explain it lmao... I'm sure Gilbert is asked "what did you really MEAN?" Hahaha
But, it's a fact that's how the operatic part went down. They were all having a good time in the studio. There was no goal of trying to be pretentious.
I love bombastic music with drama, except for Meatloaf. That dude is just over the top. "Another One Bites The Dust" was a direct ripoff of Chic's "Good Times". Queen's bass player was in the studio when Bernard Edwards was doing that famous bass riff.
The Pat Boone metal album? Yeah! It really is good stuff. Turns out 'ol white-bread likes Alice Cooper and Led Zepplin. If that album had been released today, I would never buy it. Asshole birther.
But, I like some bad songs. That one isn't really bad, it's just stupid, in a fun way.I think My Neck My Back is catchy. I doubt Khia was thinking about creating a masterpiece, she knows she's ratchet at least lol I like it too but it's argued it's a badly written song lmao
He's the same guy who wrote the song "Get Down" "You're a bad dog baby, but I still want you around!". LOL!As for Gilbert, yeah but the lyrics still doesn't explain it lmao... I'm sure Gilbert is asked "what did you really MEAN?" Hahaha

Hi!
I have Tiny Tim's single "Tip Toe to the Gas Pumps." What a wonderful record!
Best regards
Heikki
Just a little note about "I've Never Been To Me" .. the song by CHARLENE was actually from 1977 .. it even crept into the Billboard Hot 100 when released that year on the [[Motown Distributed) Prodigal label. The 1982 Motown release was prompted by the song having become a popular spin on a number of late night radio shows.
As a song I think "I've Never Been to Me" is quite good [[I do find the version by CHARLENE to be a bit saccharine but have to confess that I did always give it the "benefit of the doubt" due to its Motown connection). It is a song that is trying to point out that people who constantly chase the "good life" aren't necessarily happy and at least I can understand the sentiment involved.
This does make me wonder about what is meant by a "song", are we talking about the lyrics, the melody? the arrangement? the performance?
If we are talking about silly lyrics I don't think you can beat "Pinball Wizard" by THE WHO .. what on earth would motivate someone to write a song about someone who is deaf, dumb and blind and yet has a natural talent playing pinball [[something that doesn't seem possible)is something I just don't understand. Yet there are elements of the music and performance that would prevent me from including it on any list of "worst song ever".
I've been amused by Soulster's spirited defence of "Bohemian Rhapsody". I'd heard that Mr Bulsara made it up on the spot and NO, it doesn't make me like the song any more, though it probably does explain why it sounds to me like such a disjointed mess. I also accept that they weren't attempting to be pretentious, but that is the whole point of pretentiousness, nobody TRIES to be pretentious, they just end up being so!! Perhaps it would have been better if they were just trying to have a joke by feigning pretentiousness as then people such as myself could criticise the whole thing without QUEEN fans getting all huffy!!
Interesting to see "Clair" by GIBERT O'SULLIVAN coming in for some flack .. perhaps those who find the song "disturbing" should give this one a listen ..
It reached #7 in the U.K. charts around Christmas 1974, as one side of a "Double A Sided" 45 .. funnily enough it never seems to get played on the radio nowadays ....
Roger
Goodies! Goodie-Goodie-Yum-Yum!
They were ALL on drugs!
I know what the song is about, but it's still bad.As a song I think "I've Never Been to Me" is quite good [[I do find the version by CHARLENE to be a bit saccharine but have to confess that I did always give it the "benefit of the doubt" due to its Motown connection). All of it. Terrible! I can just see some ditz swooning to it.This does make me wonder about what is meant by a "song", are we talking about the lyrics, the melody? the arrangement? the performance?
You never saw the film?If we are talking about silly lyrics I don't think you can beat "Pinball Wizard" by THE WHO .. what on earth would motivate someone to write a song about someone who is deaf, dumb and blind and yet has a natural talent playing pinball [[something that doesn't seem possible)is something I just don't understand. The whole band made it up as they went along. Do you ever go to musicals? If you think about it in those terms, it makes more sense. The song is about a man on trial for killing a man. That middle part is the trial.I've been amused by Soulster's spirited defence of "Bohemian Rhapsody". I think "The Happening" is a great song and production. It isn't soul at all.
I couldn't disagree more. That was easily the most embarrassing attempt to maintain a crossover audience that has ever been made into a record. Only Dancing On The Ceiling could compare in terms of wretchedness. I cringe every time I hear that crap.
Nah, the WORST Motown song ever is a tie between I Just Called to Say I Love You and Everybody Rejoice. EEEEEEYuk,
My votes go to Afternoon Delight, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Endless Love, Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree, Me and You and A Dog Named Boo AND D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Oh yeah, that rap song by that Korean rapper SUCKS too.
