    Richie Havens Passes......

I hope this isn't a double post, and I wasn't sure if it belonged here or in the Clubhouse, but folk singer/songwriter Richie Havens passed today at the age of 72. The cause of death was a heart attack.

I was fortunate to see him perform a couple of times. First time was when he was touring his LP "Mixed Bag" at The Chessmate in 1967, and I've lollowed his career ever since. He will be missed.

This probably isn't a good example of his work, but I really like his reading of the Tuli Kupferberg classic.....

He was on the show with us at Carnegie Hall for Joanie Mitchell's Birthday Benefit a few years ago. He was major back in the 60's with his protest songs and was on the N.Y. scene.

Rest in Peace Richie, you made your mark.
    Condolences to the family.

    Sincerely,
    Jeanie & Jimmy

"Mixed Bag" and "Richard P. Havens, 1983" are two classic albums that show how seamlessly this man blended folk and rock. I've always held him in high regard. RIP, Richie, and thank you...

    Best,

    Mark
