Just heard the news that she passed away...
Just heard the news that she passed away...
May she rest in peace Cat.......
Albertina Walker was a Gospel music icon and warrior. She was responsible for nurturing at least two other gospel music icons: Shirley Caesar and James Cleveland. Walker's Caravans were one of the strongest female quartets [[the distaff equuivalent of the Soul Stirrers and the Dixie Hummingbirds) during Gospel's golden era.
RIP Albertina Tina" Walker
She was one of the giants of American Gospel Music. God Bless her. Rest in Peace Ms. Walker and thank you.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I know Albertine suffered with respiratory problems for a long time, and I recall her saying to an audience "Don't feel sorry for me because I did this to myself." Nevertheless, another Gospel Legend has made her transition. Thank you Ms. Walker for the music, especially the Caravans.
Oh wow ! I'm sorry to hear that. May she rest in peace.
My dad and relatives on his side of the family knew her, when they were all growing up and attending church here in Chicago, although she was younger than they were. They called her "Tina". She also sang at my aunt's funeral [[Daddy's twin). IMHO, Albertina Walker was, indeed, the Queen of Gospel, and she was also well-known in my community, where she lived [[not that far from me). She will always be one of my favorite gospel singers.

Albertina Walker was a Legend in her own time. May she be rewarded with eternal peace.
That's very sad news. She was definitely a legend, especally 'round here. If only half her old musicians show up to the funeral, they're going to need McCormick Place to hold the service. May she rest in all God's peace, the music will remain and comfort us.
That is so true, Chi Drummer, WRT her old musicians. It will be QUITE a homegoing service. I'm sure that many of the gospel greats and other admirers will be coming into town from all over the country. Albertina Walker is a legend, and, wow, we used to see her out and about in the neighborhood, with the rest of us. She was a beautiful lady. Her song, "Please Be Patient With Me", is one that I can truly relate to.
We had the Queen of the Blues [[Koko Taylor) leave us, and now the Queen of Gospel... But, at least, we [[Chicago) had them [[as well as Mahalia Jackson), while they were here on Earth.

I've met her on a few occasions and she was always very gracious...MAY SHE REST IN PEACE
Albertina was a giant on the east coast as well. Her work with the Caravans was a major inspiration to a lot of the
New York and New Jersey gospel singers as well as choirs in North and South Carolina, I know from hearing them and
probably all points further west because of her and those she mentored. RIP Albertina. You will be missed...
Praying for her family - May God be with them in a powerful way!
Walk Around Heaven All Day
One of these mornings won't be very long
You will look for me and i'll be gone
I'm going to a place where i'll have nothing, nothing to do
But just walk around, walk around heaven all day
When i get to heaven i'm gonna sing and shout
Nobody will be able to put me out
My mother will be waiting
And my father, too
And we'll just walk around, walk around heaven all day
Dear lord above don't you hear me praying
Walk right by my side
Hold my hand when my way gets a little cloudy
I need you, i need you to be my guide
Every day will be sunday, my lord
Sabbath will have no end
And we'll do nothing but sing and praise him
Then he'll say well done
And my race, my race will be won
And i'll walk around, walk around heaven all day.
Walk around heaven.
I'll just walk around heaven all day
I've been trying to find Albertina's version of I Won't Be Back on youtube with no luck; only the Shirley Caesar version with
the Caravans shows up. I know it was there about a year ago and I wanted to listen to today as they was one of the few
songs I, my mother and father all would play and enjoy in my house when I was growing up. My moms and I shared a lot of music but most of it my pop only...tolerated...
R.I.P Albertina
