"Nightflight" Tue Mar 12, 9P-12M ET: Lounge Lizards 2.0!!

Howdy there, Folks! Tonight, sort of a revisitation of a show I aired on July 30, 2011...
the ever-so-popular "Lounge Lizards" show... a show celebrating the dark, evocative atmosphere of the 50s and 60s lounges- the smells of Jungle Gardenia or Taboo and cigarette smoke, the ladies shimmying in seamed stockings to latin rhythms, the guys in sharkskin suits and thin ties [[hey...they're BACK!)...and the music...a beautiful mosaic of the sublime and the tacky.....a paradise of sorts. Tonight's show includes some favorites from the pervious show, as well as some different, vintage lounge related songs that will bring you back, if you were there [[I was, though still a babe), and if you weren't there, hearing these songs will make you wish you hadn't been born too late.

And this show I could not do alone. SDF's own sophisticated_soul...Joseph Monreal, again, shares half the show with me with some of his favorite lounge songs...together we make such sweet music!

So do join Joseph and me for this sultry slice of the past [[which, of COURSE includes som loungey versions of Motown songs too)...tonight, on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans..and we are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org
    Thanks...from Joseph and me!

"...together we make such sweet music!" Thank you mi amigo. It's always a pleasure being part of the WOMR experience.
As a matter of fact I'm heading over to my favorite lounge right now. Gonna joing the folks around the hookah and . . . oh, wait . . . that's a different kinda lounge and a different show!
See you and the gang on the Radiola Lounge. Pour me "Something Cool".

Wow John, love that your doing this tonight. Been going through a standards, lounge and concept album phase the past few weeks here with Andy, Peggy, Bobby, Dean, Rosemary, Jackie Gleason, and Lettermen while converting some old LPs so always open to finding new gems during these shows. Joseph being involved is always special as his taste and yours tend to be impeccable. See everyone tonight!

I hear Chocolate is the perfect substitute if you can't get a Supreme or an Andante to do your background vocals.....

I love this version of Skylark, even if Jon Landau doesn't...... One of the most vicious album reviews ever... And dead wrong I might add.....

Mel Torme can even sing "Happy Together" and make it sound fantastic...love him!

He also did "Sunshine Superman!" Maybe on the same album, not sure.

What a pile of shiticus. Personally I liked the second album more than the first [[which I really liked) and I especially liked that they were very different albums. I love her version of "I Shall Be Released". I do remember when the second album was released a number of folk I knew panned it. It's aged very well with me and I still think her version of "Skylark" is classic.

Love the compilation WEA put together a few years ago of Bette's standardswork "Memories Of You." Dylan couldn't have agreed about ISBR since he duetted with her on the next album.

Do you have anything by Nina Simone? I love her early album on King/Bethlehem Records where she does a great version of "Don't Smoke in Bed." Of course, she's not really a lounge singer, she's just a great singer.

I seem to remember something being said around at the time [[pre-internet) that Dylan defended her version and that is basically why he recorded with her. I'd kind of forgotten how a lot of purists were offended by her frantic interpretation of ISBR. Loved it then, love it now.

I was just going to ask if you had any Lettermen! I have all their albums.

They actually did some really beautiful versions in the 70s of other folks' material, like America's "Tin Man" and other more rock oriented material, in their smooth easy style.

Wow, thanks for playing their version of the Doors!
