The story I've always heard is that the Crystals didn't really sing on the record "He's a Rebel." Gene Pitney wrote the song; Phil Spector knew it would be a hit and wanted to get it released before another artist could put it out. The Crystals were in New York and couldn't get to the west coast [[where Phil was making records) fast enough so he had Darlene Love and the Blossoms record the song even though it was credited to the Crystals.

The other artist was Vikki Carr.

The Crystals' "He's A Rebel" was the first record I heard and thought was the best record I'd ever heard in my life.
