Obviously this list was compiled by someone born after 1975.

The little blurb on The Supremes is rather inaccurate when it states that the Supremes were the first all female group to have a number 1 Billboard hit.

This list isn't worth two cents. No Martha and the Vandellas, no Shirelles, no Marvelettes, no Honey Comb, no Ronettes, no Crystals. Some of these groups had perhaps one, maybe two hits and they are top twenty? Ridiculous! We already shot down the notion that TLC is the top selling female group some time ago...

What a horrible list. I think even Rolling Stone could do better [[and thats not saying much)...

Obviously the list is geared toward acts that have had videos played on BET over the past 30 years, hence the inclusion of The Bluebelles and The Supremes as Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, and maybe even Mary Wilson [[Walk the Line) had their videos played on the channel.

Yes Mary's videos were played on BET. Here's one for "Walk the Line"

My concern is that something such as this devalues the rich legacy of R & B Music, and reinforces the notion that anything that has been released over a year ago is from the stone age.

    That list was a joke.

I'd say they were correct with the Supremes, Destiny's Child, TLC, and maybe the Pointer Sisters or En Vogue.

Everything else seems like a toss-up.

It says BET [[TELEVISON) People who had videos on BET. Not all the girl groups that ever existed. Couz definitely if 702 is up there Martha and the Vandellas should be. The Shirelles, The Dixie Cups, The Chiffons etc.

Agrees on: Sister Sledge, Pointer Sisters, En Vogue, SWV, Supremes, Blue Belles [[probably more famously known as LaBelle anyways), Destiny's Child, and Klymaxx. TLC, don't care much for them personally, but objectively, are significant enough to be deserving too.

The rest, short lived, or did not make enough of an impression, as much as I personally dig Mary Jane Girls, 702, and Jade, but yes, each only had 1-3 years, and a handful of memorable numbers to their name, only 1 hit for Jade.

Personally, I'd fill with Blossoms, Crystals, Ronettes, Marvelettes, Martha & the Vandellas, Three Degrees....say, does Jets count? aside from plenty of New Wave / Freestyle rather than R&B, not all that many all-girl groups from the eighties ....well, Good Girls, but made only a couple hits, within one significant album.

Truly wish to add in Love Unlimited too...but, their hits of significance, although lushfully orchestrated by Barry White, only mostly ranged from 1972-1975.

The Jets wouldn’t count. They were a brother and sister family band.

OK....and some claim "Ruby and the Romantics" or "the Exciters" or "Bob. B. Sox & the Blue Jeans" were "girl groups" too, when all had atleast one male member.

AW SNAP! Would Weather Girls be qualifiable, in anyone's eyes, for a top 20 girl group list? Whether as themselves, Sylvester's back-up, and Martha Wash and her influence on dance music collectively?
