Betty LaVette - Live at the Jazz Cafe in London

The wonderful Bettye LaVette was brilliant, watch these two bits of her show and see just what you missed. It was a show of a lifetime.

Oh no.......how did I not know about this. And she sung Heart Of Gold too.

I so wanted to see Betty and I didn't even think to look at the Jazz cafe listings. Thank goodness for these two videos

I was there too; happened to be in London for a few days and didn't want to miss her either. She really seemed to enjoy the performance.

I bet all those soul boys grouped together freaked out poor Bettye.

    lol

Was it mentioned on Soulful Detroit? If it was, it must have been sandwiched between some Supremes' threads.

Oh, Bettye probably spent a bit more time on her back even though she is getting older; she probably still enjoyed it too.

I saw recently she said something like she may have talked about others but it was what she did that was the most interesting and she was glad her children weren't 7 or 8 and hearing about it for the first time.

I loved her book. Poor lady had it tough and was not treated right. She wasn't the only one, though and I can instantly mention others. :-[[

Mind you, it seems things are looking up for Bettye now. I'm pleased too. Bettye gets about more in Europe these days. I'm really niggled [[read that in USA as "pissed") about missing her performing this week in my home town.

It's easy to see why you can become bitter and jealous when you've worked like a dog and didn't make it; and there's a million of them out there.

You should never have missed her John. How did that happen?

Great for her that some recognition and perhaps some $$$ has come for her even at this late stage.

She really is the antithesis of Mary. She didn't talk about Mary because she is not well enough known to include in her book.

Hopefully Peter Benjaminson's excellent book on Mary will bring a new audience to the music and artistry of Miss Mary Wells. I'm sure Bettye knew Mary Wells back in the early 60's in detroit.

Roberta, I think jobeterob was referring to Mary Wilson NOT Mary Wells.
