This is going to be special. Love when Mary sings in front of large, large crowds like the ones at the Palace of Auburn Hills. She is going to rock!

I would have to surmizs that Ms Wilson is a friend of new Piston owner Tom Gores. Otherwise, who the heck stays in their seat at halftime at an NBA game. That's when folks hit the bathrooms and concession stands and socialize in the common areas. Its not like the Super Bowl where halftime shows are touted for the millions and millions of fans at home watching on television. Otherwise, cheerleaders and other passe events are featured at halftime...not performances that few fans are going to be really interested. I'd first look at the relationship between Ms Wilson and Mr Gores to explain this. Someone is doing someone a favor here.

Nah, I've been to many Pistons home games and whenever there is quality entertainment like Mary Wilson, people pay attention. Mary is a part of this season's entertainment series at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Others scheduled include: Gladys Knight, Bobby Brown , Rapper Fat Joe, Jay Sean, Naughty by Nature and even M.C. Hammer in his comeback attempt. This is a pretty big deal not based on Mary's personal and business relationships but on pure business and stellar talent.

We are debating attending tomorrow nights event and game.

I'm sure Mary Wilson fans will enjoy her performance, but I don't see that being a large segment of the crowd. Not to claim any superior knowledge, but my family members owned 25% of the Palace and Palace Sports & Entertainment and sold it back to the Davidsons prior to the ultimate sale to Gores following Bill Davidsons death. I'm well familiar with the Pistons demographics and the acts you mentioned are probably not the musical style favored by a majority of the fans. Keep in mind that a part of the Palace Sports & Entertainment business also includes the GTE outdoor theatre, Palace concerts, and management of the Meadowbrook venue in Rochester Hills. Some of those acts may be a part of other shows planned at some of those venues with a halftime show at a Piston game being a throw in. Like said...halftime at a basketball game after fans have been sitting on their butts for an hour or two is not conducive to committing to staying on their butts for another hour or two. Nature takes over at some point Lol.

Stu, all that aside. I too am very well aware of the Palace's demographics. It is largely a white, suburban audience. But it is still Detroit and Mary is MOTOWN! They eat that kind of shit up up there in Auburn Hills. She'll do some Supremes songs and they will love it in between eating hot dogs and drinking beer trust me! Jay Sean will have a bit of trouble, but the rest of the artists I listed will not. They just have to cut out those dumb raffle like games they usually have along with the "cute kids" trying to make a basket at half time! LOL!

Back in the 80's I saw Mary and her ladies perform during halftime at the Cleveland Cavaliers game in the old Richfield Colosieum and the crowd ate it up!

Gotta be careful of any kind of half time show!

Could be Madison Square Garden 1976 all over again.

But there is probably nothing much to this at all.

Bieber Booed at Grey Cup; Gordon Lightfoot Lauded

Bieber booed, Lightfoot lauded during splashy Grey Cup halftime

Justin Bieber faced a hostile homecoming at the 100th Grey Cup on Sunday, with the jeering capacity crowd at the raucous Rogers Centre providing the teen idol with a reception as unyieldingly cold as a long Canadian winter.

The 18-year-old grew up roughly 150 kilometres down the road in Stratford, Ont., but that didn't help his cause with the rowdy crowd on hand, who took aim at the ubiquitous pop star whenever possible.

They booed when his face popped up on the JumboTron. They booed when a host spoke his name at the onset of halftime. And they booed with extra glee as he took the stage and throughout his medley of the finger-snapping, chart-topping hit "Boyfriend" and the disco-inflected club come-on "Beauty and a Beat."

If Bieber was bothered by the boo-birds, it didn't show.

"It's an honour to be here at the Grey Cup in Canada," he said, a smile tugging at his lips despite the reaction.

"Make some noise. I said make some noise!"

Unfortunately, the crowd obliged. More boos.

Still, Bieber was outwardly unruffled. Clad in a black leather tanktop with baggy pants and a gold chain dangling around his neck, he put in a lithe performance, slickly executing his steps surrounded by dancers dressed in black-and-gold letterman jackets branded with his second initial.

As he wrapped up "Beat" — which typically features a verse from rap's reigning oddball queen Nicki Minaj — a dazzling array of pyro popped into the air and at first the crowd responded enthusiastically. But once again, the cheers dissolved into boos.

"Thank you so much Canada," Bieber announced, ignoring the response. "I love you."

If the feeling of this particular crowd wasn't mutual, there were certainly omens. There were those early-game jeers any time Bieber's face popped up onscreen, and as fans poured into the Rogers Centre, few summoned much enthusiasm for the teen idol.

Most figured that while Bieber is a bona fide draw — an international star and tabloid fixture whose latest record "Believe" became his third straight to reach multi-platinum status in Canada after its June release — most of those fans simply weren't at the game.

Surely, the CFL was hoping to court his army of tween followers [[numbering more than 30.6 million), who hang on Bieber's every tweet but might otherwise be unlikely to tune into the Grey Cup game between Toronto and Calgary.

But the divide between Bieber's young, predominantly female fanbase and the CFL faithful is as broad as a lineman's shoulders.

"Not a real big fan of Justin Bieber, sorry," said 52-year-old Johanna Ellis of Kitchener, Ont., as she navigated the Rogers Centre before the game.

"It's not a very good choice in a stadium full of football fans."

Indeed, recent Grey Cup halftime performers have skewed toward the comparatively heavy likes of Bachman & Turner, Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman and Lenny Kravitz, a drastic contrast to Bieber's fizzy pop confections.

"J-Biebs doesn't scream football, you know? Neither does Carly Rae Jepsen," agreed Calgary's Ryan Prisque, 22.

"Gordon Lightfoot — that'll be the time I turn back from the beer gardens and watch."

The 74-year-old Lightfoot certainly did captivate the crowd Sunday. With the stadium lights down, Lightfoot opened the halftime show by materializing on a modest stage near the 50-yard line, dressed in black and strumming an acoustic guitar. The crowd roared.

His long grey hair swept back, the stalwart songwriter — originally from Orillia, Ont. — put in a gentle performance of his iconic 1967 hit "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" that lacked the theatrics of Bieber's performance but nonetheless enthralled the audience, who gamely clapped along. When he was finished, they roared again.

Attention then shifted to set of three stages lined up along one side of the stadium, with a cluster of amped-up fans rushing in and clustering around.

Vancouver pop outfit Marianas Trench was greeted mostly with indifference after their performance, while 27-year-old Jepsen also received a mixed reaction at first but won the crowd over during an enthusiastic medley of her latest single, "This Kiss," and her dangerously infectious smash hit "Call Me Maybe."

But the crowd was seemingly immune to Bieber's charms — and some seemed to have been waiting for the opportunity to show their displeasure with the young star.

He had certainly been visible during Grey Cup week.

Bieber was spotted at a trendy local club on Friday night after being photographed earlier in the evening playing hoops with Toronto rap star Drake and Raptors forward Amir Johnson.

Earlier in the week, he was presented with a Diamond Jubilee Medal by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and courted controversy with his casual wardrobe choice: striped blue overalls [[unbuttoned on one shoulder) over a white T-shirt, accessorized with a backwards black baseball cap and glittering jewelry jangling around his neck and wrist.

There was sufficient uproar over his outfit that Harper even weighed in on Twitter.

"In fairness to [Bieber]," Harper tweeted Sunday, "I told him I would be wearing my overalls too."

Well, the fashion feedback seemed tame compared to the scathing response from the Toronto crowd.

Of course, Bieber — who will return to both the Rogers Centre and his usual bevy of deliriously adoring fans next Saturday — did have faithful supporters sprinkled among the fans crammed into the cavernous building.

"I missed Justin Bieber in Winnipeg ... so this is good for me," said Brittnay Dueck, attending the game with her mom.

"I'm surprised that they chose someone who's a little bit younger. Being 26, I'm OK with it. But I think everyone else who's here might not like it."

Wouldn't "quite" compare Mary Wilson performing at a Detroit area venue during a sporting event to Justin Beiber...please. Mary will certainly be greeted kindly, and to some of her more ardent fans...spectacularly. Ultimately, its halftime entertainment at a roundball game. Hopefully, the fans are there to see The Pistons and not recording artists and entertainers. If not...they should consider playing a basketball game between Wayne Newton shows in Vegas.

    Hey Marv:
Great news for Mary! It certainly shows the staying power of our Motown superstars! In Houston here we have Smokey coming to play with the Symphony as did Mary did a couple of years ago. So nice to see these polished and classy performers compared to so much of today's popular raunchy stage acts. I must be getting old! I also heard that Diana is playing the Arena Theatre. I wonder if she does any of the Symphony type shows?

I thought last year was a busy year for Mary, but it looks like she's outdoing herself here in 2012. If you can, you should go see Smokey. He puts on a very enjoyable show. I remember Mary did her symphony concert in a while back.

I’m sure she’ll do just fine. The reason why the Supremes were booed off the stage at MSG in 77 was because they were doing their Vegas/club/disco act for a crowd expecting rock and roll oldies, not because they couldn’t entertain, sing and perform. It was just their set list and arrangements that were wrong that night. I’m sure Mary will not be performing “Everybody Gets to go to the Moon”, “Let Yourself Go”, and “You’re My Driving Wheel” at Auburn Hills.

Nevertheless, Mary’s halftime show won’t be the big news tonight in the NBA. It will be the first match up between the Knicks and the Nets at the Nets’ new home in Brooklyn.

or it could be Diana Ross at the Air Jamaica Jazz Festival in 2008 when 30,000 angry Jamaicans booed her off the stage!

WOW!!! I am always stunned by the nastiness that is still thrown Mary Wilson's way. There are people who are go on internet blogs and Youtube to slam her and do it constantly. I am not sure what the lady has done to deserve this, but she is a lovely lady and it is a crying shame.

I guess we all interpret things differently. I don't see any negative posts about Mary in this thread.

Personally, I'm glad that there is an audience for any former Supreme that still wants to perform. I am a fan of all the former Supremes and support them all when they perform in my area. I am capable of supporting each of them without knocking any of them.

I’ve checked youtube and so far no video from last night’s halftime has been uploaded. But according to the Free Press, Mary performed two songs: You Can’t Hurry Love [[which the freep writer called “Love don’t come easy”) and You Keep Me Hangin’ On.

Good job, Stephanie, I noticed your call.

Mary is a sweetheart and deserves our continued support for being an original Supreme and for being a survivor.

It's only Marv and occasionally Luke that are problems for their negativity and constant pity party invitations and slagging of their Dear Diane. As Milven has pointed out, no one on this Forum slags anyone in the way Marv slags Diane.

Any arrows Mary takes are only intended for Marv. And Luke when he can't be independant.

Mary has been sent a compilation of Marv's indiscretions and rudenesses and she asked that they be stopped and she be left out of it. But I don't think her wishes were honoured.

That would be my call on it! But Mary is a good lady.

I just read the eight reviews for Mary Wilson at Tocketmaster. They are stunning and well deserved. Since you are always knocking Diana, I decided to check out her reviews for comparison. They were pretty good too. There probably were some negative reviews included , but with over 1300 reviews posted, there were too many to go through.

I won't get further into your game of comparing them and knocking one or the other. The only thing that they have in common is that they were Supremes and are very good entertainers. To make further comparisons of their careers would be unfair, since each of their careers is so different.

detmotownguy, I was in H-Town in 2001 the aforementioned Ms. Wilson and the Dennis Edwards Tempts Review did a show where I was lucky enough to be sitting in the second row, be still my heart, she was also the pretty girl back in the day, but now has blossomed into a pretty woman. Ms. Wilson certainly has a lot of fans in Swinging Sams town as the show was sold out.

I saw her here in upstate NY about 4 years ago, and she just keeps getting better with age. My point is go ahead on ahead Mary and do your thing, looking about the audiences at both shows the crowds absolutely were having a big time love affair as well. I don't think it was solely that she is a former member of the Supremes, so much as she really puts on a good shew, with all appologies to Mr. Sullivan.
