"Nightflight" Tue Nov 20, 9P-12M ET: The Spinners & Dionne Warwick!

Hello, Folks! As we approach the holidays, I thought I'd give you another special tribute show. And remarkably,
these two music entities cover many of "Nightflight's" favorite musical genre....Philly, Brill Building, Invictus and, of course....Motown! Tonight, "Nightflight" showcases The Spinners and Dionne Warwick. I've spent the last week gathering tracks for you...many never or rarely heard on radio.
Also, a very special presentation tonight, I will be airing for the first time, from the yet to be released "Supremely Yours II" produced and arranged by Steve Weaver....Scherrie Payne's and her daughter Shoshana Payne Philips' beautiful duet and cover version of the late Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father". I want to thank Steve for allowing this amazing track to be aired on "Nightflight". Cheers to you, Steve!!
One more thing....I'll be hosting TWO WOMR shows this week...tonight's "Nightflight" and on Thursday...Thanksgiving Day from 5P-8P ET...I will be filling in for Rich Rubino on his "Sounds Of America" [[great American songbook) show. So do join me for that ...as you take a break from drumsticks and stuffing and football.
I plan to squeeze a bit of Motown and soul into the show.
So do join me on "Nightflight" Tue Nov 20, 9P-12M ET and "Sounds of America" Thur Nov 22, 5P-8P ET....
on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and streaming live worldwide at www.womr.org
Thanks....and a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all!
    John

Wow, twice in one week? That's a very pleasant Thanksgiving surprise and will break up the usual Wood family holiday tradition of bringing a dish to pass and an unresolved issue

Dionne and The Spinners is quite the treat, John. Since the item in the picture below didn't tell me in advance you were gonna do this, does anyone know where I can get a fair trade in price for it?

I'm tellin' ya--if there's one thing I like on Thanksgiving, it's a second helping of Perrone. But the stew brewin' for tonight is a' bubblin' already, and I know it's gonna fill me up. Sounds like one feast after another. But like I've always said: "There's always room for Perrone." And as I've always asked: "Does this gown make me look fat?" [[Sorry. I haven't quite let go of last week's schtick yet. I should be better by the time The Spinners and Dionne arrive.) Hope all of John's buddies can make it to the shows. I'm showin' up . . . whether ya like it or not!

Well, we've all taken missteps in our lives and I'm sure Miss Warwick has more than her share to ponder.

Glen.....yes....I would have made arrangements for hosting even MORE shows, but I'm trying to keep my media saturation at a minimum [[*grin). Thanks for posting your Psychic Friends Kit......it is one of your BEST! I love it!

Mark...hey there! You are so right! And I'm so excited about playing Dionne's music tonight that I won't even mention on the air what a nasty, horrid bitch she was on that skunk, Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice", like I usually do..
    Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww.....that's better!

Now now, Donald or his handlers on the Apprentice were probably always just out of the camera shot constantly asking Dionne if she knew where to get a copy of Obama's birth certificate or if Linda Georgian could tell her when she'll get another hit just to piss her off.....

What a great show idea John! Maybe a series of "&" shows? Marvin Gaye & Mary Wells would touch on many artist and songs. Earth, Wind and Fire & The Emotions? Looking forward to tonight's show. I'll Be Around.

Hey John. Every show on NIGHTFLIGHT is very special in some way. That Joni Mitchell one threw me for a loop. But the primal scream therapy is finally starting to kick in. And it's only a matter of time before my underwear stops looking like a Rorschach test. On another front, was that the backing track of SWEET THING you started off with?

If you have this it might be nice to play: The Spinners and Linda Creed singing 'Then Came You' life at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Hi John, Any chance of ANYTHING else from the excellent Jerry Ragavoy produced/arranged album, Then Came You? I love the entire CD. Sadly Jerry passed a few years ago too. After initial hick-up I'm now online and listening/recording. RIGHT ON!

Totie was a trouper, she carried on just fine with one leg. I loved seeing her on Ed Sullivan. She had so many health problems, just 48 when she kicked it. She was a laugh riot in her day.

Excellent choice JP! Btw - Lynda has a great story about Dionne visiting The Supremes backstage at the [[sadly incomplete) show we have on CD 'In Japan! She went back before they started the show and said something that made Jean, Lynda & Mary laugh. Can't write it here unfortunately...

The music tonight is sounding great, John. But suddenly, I'm feelin' very Joni Mitchell for some reason. It's that incredible NIGHTFLIGHT thing--when the music I didn't know or think I liked seeps in, takes over, and runs around in my head and I can't get it out. You don't have Joni doin' ASK ANY GIRL, do ya? I know I'll love it even more than the Tony Martin and Chris Clark versions.

Totie became an example, to me, of carrying on despite adversity. Her humour did take on an edgier tone as her health problems became so much of the material for her act.

Thanks John. Sounds nice streaming across the internet! I hope the fans like the new/old sound too.
I'll be staying on until the end of the show - it's 3am here so another couple of hours won't hurt me - even though at my age I need as much beauty sleep as I can get!!!!!
