I like Johnnie's version better. It's more emotional and spirited [[despite his not having as good a natural voice as Sam's).
Arthur Conley does a nice version of it too.

Nice version,but i prefer sam's.
I don't know Jai,.Johnnie Taylor was not intimidated by Sam at all. And Sam had a habit of covering a song after he had produced it on one of his artists - just to show them and the fans that he could sing the song too. Sam covered Mel Carter's When A Boy Falls In Love and Mel kicked his ass too in my opinion.
