Anyone Have Info On The Martinis?

I was listening to an 1960's aircheck [[WVON Chicago) and Bill Crane [[Butterball) played an instrumental that featured a guitar, organ, drums and bass. He said "these are The Martinis" but I didn't hear him name the tune. There is another instrumental that I play in my head but don't know who the group is but it sorta sounds like it might be them also.

That's the thing about cuts that are all music and no lyrics it can be hard to get the tune across to someone in hopes of them helping you name the artist. There is a jazz cut I'd like to have but it's just to hard to try to hum it or whatever. What's a person to do [[lol)?

If it's the same Martinis I'm thinking of, there's some sort of connection to the Mar-Keys and the Packers.

    Best,

    Hi Mr. June!

As Mark pointed out, not only is there a connection between The Martinis & Stax, but there's also a connection between them & Willie Mitchell & The Hodges Brothers over at Hi Records.

There's a very recent compilation on the Lights In The Attic label which spotlights the work of the Packy Axton [[the son Estelle, co-owner of Stax) named "Late Late Party". While researching that CD & The Martinis a few months back, I found a few links that gave a little info about them. These links should lead you in the right direction:

It would really be something to hear that other instrumental that I've had in my head for over 40 years again. It sounds like it might be the Martinis too.

That's why I like those airchecks so much. It's one thing to hear dusty records but to hear them in the context of when then first came out with news, weather, commercials and DJ patter can't be beat.
