    We got books

There are so many new members of the forum these days that maybe we shouldn’t take it for granted that everyone knows what we old-timers know.

We are in the last stages of producing Marva Whitney’s autorbiography – God, The Devil and James Brown. We felt it would benefit from an index, so are adding one before it goes to press.

We have also produced the following Motown and Soul Music related books:

Motown: The View From The Bottom by Funk Brother, Jack Ashford

    http://www.amazon.com/MOTOWN-VIEW-BO...s=motown+books

Motown From the Background – the story of session singers The Andantes

    http://www.amazon.com/Motown-Backgro...s=motown+books

My Sister Tommie – the story of Tammi Terrell as told by her sister Ludie and Vickie Wright

    http://www.amazon.com/My-Sister-Tomm...=tammi+terrell

Russ Terrana’s Motown, told with wit and style by his brother, and our Moderator, Ralph

    http://www.amazon.com/Russ-Terranas-...ywords=terrana

The Road Through Motown is Ralph telling his own story from the beginning, via Tera Shirma and Motown.

    http://www.amazon.com/Road-Through-M...ywords=terrana

Only Human was a big hit for Tommy Hunt, and is also the title of this autobiography

    http://www.amazon.com/Only-Human-My-...rds=tommy+hunt

Chinwaggin’ is a series of interviews by soul music journalist, Sharon Davis with a host of stars in the 1980s

Not forgetting, of course, Dave :
Really Sayin' Something - Memoirs of a Soul Survivor, his autobiography containing experience of fifty years as a soul fan growing up in London, UK, by Clive Richardson...

Absolutely, Clive. Mea culpa. One day I'll learn to look at the list instead of using what passes for my mind.

Russ forwarded this email received from former New York DJ Jim Davis.Years ago, when Russ and I were in NYC to do the album cover shoot for Stoney and Meatloaf, Jim was there to get us where we needed to go. We had a great day because of him.

    Russ,

I just ordered a copy of Ralphs book about YOU and it arrived yesterday. I sat up reading it ‘till the wee small hours. What incredible stories and pictures. It’s an honor to know you buddy. We’ve all come a long ways from those days with our kids, and JoAnne, Beth and Sylvia…. Yet it’s nice to know that ˝ century later, we’re still sending funny jokes to each other!

I don’ t know if you’ll remember Scotty Regan or not. Scotty was at WKNR during the early Motown heyday and was pretty active at the studio with many of the artists. He and I live close by each other and see each other frequently. He asked me a few months ago if I would help him produce a “Motown Memories” piece which he has been using on a few speaking tours around the country. Anyway, I posted it at www.dropbox.com

It is a huge [[70 mBs) file, so if you are interested it will take a long time to download unless you have high speed DSL. I’ll send you both an “invite” to listen to it. Great memories of Detroit radio and music.

Again, can’t wait to finish the rest of the book.

    -Jim

    Splank:

Just about everything happened to us, but we are now happening back at it. Apologies to everyone for the delay, but Marva's book is among the first few books for 2013. I hope you will feel it is worth the wait.

I can't promise the UK Government coalition's fiscal policy, Ralph, but maybe a smile or two.
