The article didn't tell us anything we didn't know, but, yes, people like these songs because they can relate to them, or there is something in them that speaks to us.

When I listen to music, the vocals are just another instrument. For me, it's all about the overall sound and feel of a song. The lyrics are secondary if I notice them.

I don't like videos because they destroy my mental image of the artist and the song. I like to use my imagination.
