Jeff And The Atlantics/Edwin Starr question

Silly question time. I read somewhere [[Allmusic?) that Jeff And The Atlantics, who backed Gino Washington on "Geno Is A Coward" among other songs, also backed Edwin Starr on "Double-0 Soul". This runs contrary to what I've been led to believe. I could understand them behind The Reflections, but Edwin's song? I have my doubts. Any help?

    Thanks in advance.

I doubt that they did the backing on that song, Doug.

I agree here. It surely doesn't sound like them. Rather sounds like the concoction of Detroit musicians used by Ed Wingate and Jo Ann Jackson used on their Golden World and Ric Tic recordings.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Funk Brothers were on that session.

That was my understanding. The Jeff And The Atlantics thing came out of left fiels [[It is in the All Music listing for Gino Washington), because I had been lead to believe that many of the Funk Brothers played on Ric-Tic sessions.

Ha! Ha! THAT'S an understatement! I'd be shocked if less than 2/3 of the session musicians were current Motown musicians, and less than 5 Funk Brothers played on that session.

That is pretty much how it was back then, Rob.

Ed and Joanne were no fools. They wanted the best.
