Grace Jones performs "Slave To The Rhythm": Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert

Did anyone catch Grace Jones' appearance during the concert for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee? At 64 years young, she looks and sounds awesome. Since I grew up during the 90's/2000's, unfortunately I missed out on Grace when she was dominating the music world. I was never a fan of her's before, but this performance, as well as my friend and fellow member, Copley, turned me onto her. I have been listening to her music non-stop and watching all sorts of videos on Youtube. I admire her artistry. I watched one recent interview she did in the UK in 2010 and she was hilarious. However, she also seemed a little "out of it"? Or is this just her whacky and comical personality?

Dame Shirley Bassey was also fantastic. She's another favourite artist of mine. She performed "Diamonds Are Forever".

I think Grace has always been 'a little left of center'. Grace can still throw a party!

Carlo. If you like Grace Jones, check this out.

The consensus of opinion is that Grace was one of the best acts of the night along with Stevie Wonder. Shirley, diva that she once was, doesn't have the power in her voice that she once was. However, at the grand age 75, she's not doing bad at all. She can outshine the likes of youngsters like Cheryl Cole, that's for sure.

Saw Grace last year in The Hague: great show and voice better than ever.
Her son is on percussion in her band.

Shirley did a great live show on BBC in 2009: see a clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2DDJEWOcWI
Her last album The Performance is one of her best albums ever!

Carlo, see what you think of these. The final clip is nearly 30 years old. Grace looks just the same today.

Thank you boyfromxtown. I like that song.

I think Shirley Bassey has amazing vocals for a 75 year old. She still blows me away.

Thanks Jack. I remember seeing clips of this Electric Proms show on Youtube. I wish it would get an official DVD release. I agree, I love "The Performance". It's unfortunate that the album was not a big success.

Thanks for the links, Copley. The video for "Love On Top Of Love" is great. I've listened to the Bulletproof Heart album once and it's great. I like several of the tracks from the first half of the album. Towards the end, the album kinda falls apart for me, but maybe I need to listen to it some more and it will grow on me.

The live video of "Hurricane" is really cool! I enjoyed that. I had never heard "I'm Not Perfect" before, although I do know of her album called, "Inside Story", which was produced by Nile Rogers. I didn't realize "I'm Not Perfect" was one of her biggest international hits.

Nobody does it like Grace. For those of us who were hanging at the clubs, we were treated to a great house mix of "Love On Top Of Love" back in '89:

Here's a rare track sung in French by Grace called "Comme Un Oiseau Qui S'envole". This was a bonus track on the Canadian edition of Grace's "Fame" LP in 1978. It's one of my faves:

No doubt that Ms. Bassey still sounds superb. Here's Shirley singing "Light My Fire" [[always loved her rendition) and "I Am What I Am" from 2000. She's awesome.

Cheers to Xtown, Copley & Carlo

I have to admit Carlo that I got rid of 'Bulletproof Heart' many years ago. Apart from the single I thought that the rest was very sub standard. 'Inside Story' is my fav Grace album. Every track is a gem. It didn't sell at all well. Try to get hold of it, I'm sure that you'll love it.
