Great. "I didn't pay taxes because the record industry is brutal and my fans stalk me." If that's supposed to make sense to me, then I'm as crazy as she is. Lauryn Hill was a talented artist. She was, however, as much a product of the machine that she rages against as she was an artist. To wit: she wasn't the most talented or original singer but she had a promotional advantage provided by "the machine" and her millions of loving fans. They could have devoted those resources and that attention to someone else and let her sell her demos out of her back seat, tax free. But she took advantage of it when it suited her needs and complained about it when she found her inner diva.

I don't need the soliloquy that she laid out to take the personal opinion that she is entitled and justly charged. If you don't want to be part of the cult of personality, stay underground. Her statement will only fuel the monster that she says that she's trying to escape, however.

Well since she doesn’t pay taxes, then hopefully she doesn’t call the police for help whenever a fan stalks her.
