    The Billboard Awards

Did anyone watch the Billboard Awards last night? I didn't watch the broadcast because I had plans and didn't care to sit through another awards show of screaming/singing and rapping. However, I did go on Youtube to see the tributes to Whitney and Donna. I liked the tribute to Whitney because you could tell it was all about love and respect. Seeing Bobbi Kristina made me cry.

Donna Summer's tribute was disrespectful, in my opinion. Natsha Beddingfield came on and performed "Last Dance". It lasted for barely a minute and they cut it off for a commercial break. I understand that they had to plan her tribute at the last minute and fit it into a live show with time constraints, but they would have been better off doing a touching video montage rather than a performance cut off after a minute. It came off as a half-ass attempt and was disrespectful to someone who was so talented and paved the way for so many.

Hi Carlo, I also did not want to sit through a show with mumbling, screaming and rapping so I recorded it and watched on time delay and skipped all the crap. So I did get to see the Donna Summer tribute and agree that it was disrespectful. I made a comment in another thread.

They had enough time to also give a nice tribute to Donna who is just as deserving. Last Dance was performed by someone [[sorry, don't recall her name, but she did a good job). But the segment was rushed and at the end an announcer was talking over her performance promoting upcoming events and the end of the song was cut off to go to commercial. It wasn't a tribute. It was an insult.
They also mentioned the death of Robin Gibb which shocked the audience and the hosts asked for a minute of silence. The silence was not a minute. It was just long enough to allow the audience to gasp at the news and then they went on with the show. Awkward and uncomfortable to watch. I like MODERN FAMILY, but those actors did not belong on a music awards show, especially as hosts. Bring back some legends as hosts of these shows, Bette, Gladys, Diana, Cher, Patti.

Oh, and no wonder I didn't know who was singing Last Dance. I'm not up with current music and never heard of Natsha Beddingfield

Agreed. The music industry has been taking a negative turn for a while now. It's shameful that Madonna was inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and Donna Summer was not inducted before her passing. Furthermore, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato [[a Disney star), neither of whom cannot sing to save their lives, are signing on to be the new female judges for X Factor. Legends like Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin publicly expressed their interest in being a judge for X Factor, but these two talentless girls were picked over our legends in order to draw in a higher volume of ratings from younger viewers. The music industry is forgetting our legends in favour of commercialism and it's sad.

What a crappy award show. But there was one performance that blew me away. The one legged dancer, check him out
