    Valerie Simpson

Valerie has a new release called "Dinosaurs Are Coming Back Again." The CD includes an instrumental version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", a duet w/ Roberta Flack and Nina Simone's last recorded song.

I had just posted about this in the Soulful Detroit Forum just before Mother's Day when I went to see Valerie in concert. She performed Dinosaurs and played ANMHE. I was glad I got a chance to see her perform Dinosaurs. She also talked about how this latest project came about. Of course, I had to buy her cd.

Thank you so much for sharing! I had no idea that this album was already out. I'm gonna go and listen to the clips. I'll definitely be purchasing the CD because I know it will be great [[even before I hear it) and I want to support Miss Simpson.

I wondered why the CD was called Dinosaurs Are Coming Back!

Sounds like many of these artists struggle with record companies these days and that many of the record companies are struggling themselves. No wonder they can't get new material out.

I can't quote what she said about "Dinosaurs" but as I said, I was glad to hear her do it live. It was one of those songs that she walked through the audience while ad-libing and I mean she worked us. On the cd the song pretty much fades out [[dang!) I was wanting to hear some of the ad-lib to recapture her walking past me singing her heart out. Also, her musicians were phenomenal on the song with their sound effects. ANMHE was also good - all I can say is she really played the heck out of that piano.

Here is a picture I took of her [[not the best shot, but I'm glad to have it) and below is the quote I posted the night I saw her.

    Valerie Simpson's SF Show.
Tonight I went to see Valerie Simpson at the Razz Room in SF. All I can say is - she is simply incredible! She said that her and Nick were previously scheduled to perform this date and due to circumstances, the owner of the club talked her into doing the date anyway. Valerie is an extraordinary talent and I'm glad to have to chance to see her up close. The show was a tribute to her late husband, Nick Ashford and at some points in the show it got a little emotional but then she took us to another level. Both of her daughters were there - one singing and the other flew in for the show. The surprise for me was, she has a new project out in which she did a couple of songs from that she said was finished and they put it on the shelf. . she went back to it and has a couple of duets, one with Nina Simone and one with Roberta Flack. I tell you she let us have it!! LOL. She also has a website http://valeriesimpson.net which is very nice. God Bless You Valerie!!"
