    Ace Records ... What's Next

Another excellent release from Shorty Long continues the Ace/Motown deal. I know mention was made of a further release in April but this missed the deadline. What next is planned?

    CD Description

    * Dave Hamilton held a unique place in Detroit music. His success as a session musician allowed him to gather players together at his studio to recreate the sounds he heard elsewhere. In the late 60s and early 70s that sound was funk and "The Detroit Funk Vaults" delves into his work of that time.
    * Very few of these recordings were issued, but those that were are highly sought-after by collectors. Number one amongst these is Prophet & The Disciples' `You Fool, You Fooled Me' which is almost impossible to track down. O.C. Tolbert's `Hard Times' has recently been in-demand, whilst the Barrino Brothers' `I'll Take My Flowers' is a long-time collectors item.
    * Of the unreleased material we see the funk trail leading from the proto funk of the Tokays' `Clap Your Hands' through the Temptations-sounding Bolton Brothers and on to the Funkadelic-influenced `Simon Says' by the Future Kind. Dave's own recordings are mined for some incredible funk instrumentals including `A Drop In The Bucket' by the Deacons and the Quincy Jones-sounding `Ghetto Stride'. * The track list in completed by some classics such as James Carpenter's `Marriage Is Just A State Of Mind' and would-be classics such as the instrumental sion of Billy Garner's funk masterpiece `Brand New Girl'.
