"You Made Me So Very Happy" is simply gorgeous here. I can see why Mr. Gordy would insist on this tempo with that instrumentation. Too bad he didn't also allow Brenda to record it as she envisioned it- ala Blood, Sweat & Tears and place it as the b-side. perhaps Brenda would've had a two-sided hit.
Luck is obviously with Bruce and you, dear Mr. Perrone.
This extended version of BIMAA always leaves me So Satisfied
"Back In My Arms Again", always a favorite. Thanks John!
Woah! On the 'ooh's' it sounds as if Miss Flo & Miss Mary are both near the mike but on the early 'back in my arms again's' Flo is standing way behind Mary. Then as the song progresses further, it sounds as if they moved Flo up closer to Mary. Love your funky vocals at the end!!!
I missed the show but got my copy of this great set in the mail today. I was wondering if Johnny mentioned, or if anyone else noticed, that the reproduction in the booklet of the handbill from the early 60s, where it shows the lineup for a concert in which Marvin Gaye was the headliner, but who also has as one of the opening acts, a singer named Tammy Montgomery - the future Tammi Terrell. Not all that ironic, I guess, that they would travel and appear on some of the same shows, but curious nonetheless considering their future pairing.
I don't think Johnny has the actual set yet, only 2 tracks Mr. Weinger forwarded to him. Or am I wrong?
Not Lil ole me-
You, baby, are the magician.
Please don't forget to mention that Mr. Harry Weinger will be your special guest next week!!
Guys and girls....thanks for a WONDERFUL FUNKS part one.....it was enormous fun.....
See you next week I hope!
Great Funky Show tonight Johnny! Have a great week all
My copy arrived today as well; so amazing to hear the "That Motown Sound" again after so many years [[I had the album but it vanished somewhere in college, 40 years or so ago). As usual on the Hip-0 Select releases, the sound is superb. Thanks, Harry and Kevin!
Wonderful show John! Thanks everyone! Have a great week one and all.
John, another super show this evening. This is the second live I'd heard. Better late than never. I'm looking forward to next week, as well as catching up on past podcast shows I missed. All the best. Mark
Looking forward to being on next week.
In re to the posted track list: Allow me to clarify that, as explained in another thread on the EVD set, the studio version of THE FLICK on Disc 1 is an alternate take from the released single, not more of that single. You bet we're gonna play the entire alternate next Tuesday.
