Mary Wilson & Mark Bego On Whitney Houston– Why The Hate?

As you can see, I met and interviewed Mary Wilson, one of the original Supremes with Diana Ross, and And Mark Bego, her date who wrote a book on Whitney Houston that was released just about a week ago. But while the interview was short, and certainly harmless, the YouTube comments have been mean, either toward Mary Wilson or Mark Bego, or both.

While I can’t figure out the mean stuff written about Mark Bego [[except that much of it is homophobic, and I don’t know or care what his sexual orientation is), the stuff about Mary Wilson seems to come from some long-standing feuds about The Supremes with Diana Ross. This is what People Magazine reported about the issue in 2009, when Mary released her memoir:

Sitting in the cross hairs of Wilson’s memoir is Diana Ross, her former childhood friend from their days together in Detroit’s Brewster Projects. Ross emerges as a pushy egocentric who borrowed boyfriends as casually as clothes and who later on relied far more on savvy than soul to advance her career. According to Wilson, Ross soaked up the spotlight like a light-starved plant, kept her own dressing room while Wilson and Ballard shared, and tried to dominate interviews once the press started coming around looking for stories. “Diane always liked to be the center of attraction,” says Wilson. “If you happened to be in her way while she was going toward the center, that was your fault.”

This is where I could have done better in talking with Mary, but the topic of the day was Whitney Houston, so we talked about that. It was perfect because Mr. Bego wanted to promote his book on Whitney Houston, but with that, I have to say it seems like too many people have their hands out after her death.

    Stay tuned.

Isn't Mark's Whitney book just a quick re-release of his previously released book with a chapter added? I don't mind Mr. Bego's books but they aren't deep biographies. To me, they just seem to skim the surface and have no real depth.

I was more curious as to why Mary had Jeff Knight's card in her hand.

For me, Randy Tarraborelli is a much better read - he digs deep, he KNOWS his stuff and as far as The Supremes is concerned, HE witnessed a lot - that others can only fantasize about or make up to make a buck!

Mark is like a rash of recent Motown or quasi Motown authors.........they "anna be Randy" but they are 25 years too late; they write general rehashes of the semi salacious material without verification of anything; they repeat again and again material that fans know wasn't accurate; as Andy says, the salacious material doesn't even warrant comment.

It's material like that of Mark Ribowsky; hey, maybe they are one and the same person.

As for the UTube hate comments, that seems to be standard fare for UTube. In Canada, some of that qualifies as hate mail or attempting to incite hatred, especially when it is based on color, gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or political belief.

If it constitutes harassment and there is concern about it, those being subjected to it can always report it to the police.
