Triple "B" Records

Hey SDF!

I recently received in the mail a really nice copy of a 45 on Triple "B" Records out of Detroit, Johnny Griffith's "Do It" b/w "I Want Some Satisfaction". The label shows it was produced by Jack Ashford, Lorraine Chandler, and Johnny Griffith, and that it was engineered by Richard Becker [[one of the Triple "B"'s, perhaps?).

I know absolutely nothing about this label that isn't printed on the label, like that their address was 6097 Whitewood St. in Detroit. Can anyone tell me anything about this label? Are other singles from them worth hunting for?

There were four records on the label, which I believe it was owned by Jack Ashford.

Hi Graham,
We have a thread about Judi & The Affections and DoDe, Top Ten, Ernstrat, and Meadowbrook Records, Ernie Stratton, Al Placido and Fred Saxon. Can you please take a look over at that thread?
Maybe you can answer some of our questions and maybe post a few label scans?

Thanks so much, acooolcat! I believe it was an Ashford label as well, just like his Ashord imprint - they shared the same address, which was his. Now to track down those other releases.

The Four Sonics 45 is a bit pricey, but good.

"Where Are You" was also recorded by Johnny Dixon - on the local Boss label.

Jack and Lorraine lived at the house on Whitewood.

Great sounding group and they did a superb singing job! Yes, it was part of his name. He was a great dog also.

On the Boss label...that's interesting on the credit changes. Publishing and writers credits are different. Loved Johnny Dixon's singing. Interesting.

Absolutely loved writing for Eddie Parker. That voice and his interpretation of a song always did me in! Good song and production too. I have to give credit to the musicians also. All the musicians who played on our labels were outstanding.

The Soul Congress band [[Billy Sha-Rae's group) was as funky as you could get it. Al Gardner [[one of the writers), a singer, had such a wonderful smooth and mellow voice. Would like to know where they are today.

I think Al Gardner started out with Robert West and then recorded for Don Davis in the early 60s - not sure where he is now, but he may have gone back home... was that Cincinatti?

Al's record 'I Can't Stand It' is my personal fave - it was released on the Sepia label. He also had a record on Sir Rah - a sister to the above Boss one - which was a remake of Tony Hestor's 'Watch Yourself'.
