If you've ever loved and lost [[and who hasn't!?) ........................

Feeling in a reflective and rather melancholy mood, this really did it for me. Does music get any better than this? I know you knowledgeable folk on here are more than aware of this brilliant song, but sometimes we have to be reminded. Also I don't think Marvin Junior gets true approbation.

Mike, thanks for that clip which I've never seen before. Anything that shows the Dells live is welcome, their live clips seem quite rare. I have never had the chance to see them, I would so love to. Marvin Juniors' voice does really strange things to my emotions, is this the definition of Soul singing?

Keith, the first album by The Dells I bought was from a television store in Plymouth circa 1968/9. I was truly astonished.

How could one album contain so many extraordinary songs/ sounds? Stay In My Corner and Wear It On Your Face.....truly fabulous! To this very day...

    SIDE 1:

    STAY IN MY CORNER
    ALWAYS TOGETHER
    THERE IS
    LOVE IS SO SIMPLE
    PLEASE DON'T CHANGE ME NOW
    WEAR IT ON OUR FACE

    SIDE 2:
MAKE SURE [[YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO LOVES YOU)
    O-O, I LOVE YOU
    DOES ANYBODY KNOW I'M HERE
    HALLWAYS OF MY MIND
THE CHANGE WE GO THROUGH [[FOR LOVE)
    I CAN'T DO ENOUGH

Another performance of the same song:

And although the sound quality isn't so great, still priceless...

and a tribute to The Mighty Dells

    and finally, the best...

I managed to pick up a UK Chess copy of the "Freedom Means" LP by THE DELLS in a bargain bin around 1972/3.

The LP has many high moments .. including "The Love We Had" .. but for me the real undicovered gem on the LP is a fantastic song written by TERRY CALLIER, AL WADE and JERRY BUTLER called "I'd Rather Be With You" .. as far as I know it has never come out on CD and I can't find it on you-tube either .. grrr ..

One DELLS track I have found on you-tube is another old favourite of mine which has a similar melancholy feel to "The Love We Had" ..

    THE DELLS : "I Miss You" ..

    THE DELLS : "I Miss You" ..

Yes great song, this was one of several Dells records produced by Don Davis and written by Mr. Tony Hester of Dramatics fame. The Dells can do no wrong in my book and its unfortunate that the passing of one of their stellar members[[ Johnny Carter) may signal the end of the group as we know it. We have our fingers crossed here in Chicago that this won't happen. Excellent posts everyone. We were discussing this very LP on another forum and the songs are fresh in my mind because I just listened to this LP in its entirety the other day.

The track was taken from this 1973 gem The Dells , I have included the track listing:

    Name: Dells.jpg
Views: 391
Size: 28.5 KB

A1 Let The Feeling Talk To You 7:04
    A2 I Miss You 4:24
A3 My Pretending Days Are Over 4:04
    A4 Let's Make It Last 4:09
    B1 I Hear Voices 9:26
    B2 If You Move I'll Fall 4:55
    B3 Don't Make Me A Storyteller 4:12

I'm glad I stopped in here because I don't think many folks would have known that this thread is about one of my favorite groups, although the title was intriguing. Please don't view this as negative criticism. I simply love the Dells...........

I told Terry Callier when he played the Bottom Line years ago in New York that this song is a masterpiece.

Choosing a favorite Dells song is impossible for me...I love them all: both versions of Oh, What A Night, Stay In My Corner, Nadine, I Can't Do Enough, Open Up My Heart, Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation, and especially their version of Sweeter As The Days Go By...Marvin Jr.'s spoken intro says it all--

    "I love you Baby,
With aaaaall my heart and soul
And all these years we've been together
They've been good ones, ain't they?
I just want to take this time out to thank you in song
For all the things you mean to me..."

arr&bee-- "The dells are like fine wine[gets better with age]"
You ain't said nothing but a word bro. The phrase "When the world has changed our hair from black to silver" ,from "The Love We Had" , sends chills up my spine from the day I heard it at 11 yrs old [[when I never had or understood getting pus**) to today at 56 :d ,as well as up to "Love Is A House" and back to "Let The Feeling Talk To You" and even "I Touched A Dream". The Dells have never had to re-invent themselves. They ARE the true example of the perfect group ensemble. The fact that anyone can't see that or accept it is that persons loss.
