    Unhappy Black ivory

A friend of mine just found an album by BLACK IVORY at a record fair, and bought it because "It had a great cover & looked interesting!". He hasnt told me the name of it yet, but he has been raving about it all day! I seem to remember the name of this group, but cannot remember any songs they did. Until, he calms down, I wont know the songs on the album. All he said was, Imagine The Delfonics crossed with Eddie Kendricks and youre there. EH?....Please someone, help me out.....Paulo XXXX

    Paulo:

Black Ivory just celebrated their 40th year in music & consists of ALL THREE ORIGINAL MEMBERS!

Here's the best way to find out...

I LOVE the harmony on this song...SWEET!!!

    and the flip side...

This 1979 ballad with Diane Ransom joining in...

This smash is from the 1979 "Hangin' Heavy" LP, when Black Ivory recorded as a duo, after Leroy left in order to get more involved in production. Leroy produced this smash, Russell Patterson sings lead on this Disco classic. It's amazing to think that this song didn't chart!..

I hope that this small sampling helps.

juicefree..this is AMAZING!!! THANKYOU so much for SHARING. wow, I am amazed myself, that I missed out on these wonderful vocalists. Back in the day, I knew The Temps, Tops, Chi Lites, Delfonics, Spinners, Ojays etc, but sadly BLACK IVORY passed me by. NOT ANYMORE!..I will spread the news! Happy, HAPPY 40TH TOO!!!..Paulo XXXX

    Paulo:

It's my pleasure! Black Ivory are friends of mine & nicer guys, you couldn't hope to meet.

When I first joined SDF I was surprised to learn that many people didn't know about them. I found that more people knew of Patrick adams or Leroy Burgess for their dance cuts, than knew about Black Ivory from their early days. But in the early 70s, Black Ivory was HUGE in the N.Y./N.J. area.

But I had to think back to the days of the small indies, when many labels just didn't have the money to get their records pushed beyond a 4 state radius. Here in New York, we thought that Black Ivory was huge & known everywhere. Had they had the money that it took to reaaly promote their music, they would've been much bigger, because they were & are talented.

I've been educated about so many artists on this site...artists & songs that I'd either only read about, or had never heard. If I've helped you in any way, I'd glad to be able to do it, because SDF members have been absolutely helpful & tremendously both in sharing knowledge & music.

It's just another reason why I love this place so much
