Faith evens & producer billy woodruff walk away from "florence ballard" project

Interesting update on the Flo Ballard movie. Looks like there's some trouble on the set but looks like the show may go on http://www.mlive.com/movies/index.ss...ay_from_f.html

What set? There hasn't been one frame of film shot yet. This movie will never see the light of day.

And who would watch it if it did ever go straight to bargain bucket dvd! Florence Ballard isn't a big enough name for a bio-pic!

If it has a good story with good acting plus good music there could be a huge audience .By the time "Lady Sings the Blues" came out how many people, young movie goers, were really familiar with Billie Holiday?

Yeah, but how many ' young' people went to see it? And of those who did, how many because of Diana Ross? Also, Billie Holiday was a legend in the jazz world. A solo artist with a stack of songs to her credit. Florence was a backing vocalist for the most part.

There have been a number of bio pics made of people who aren't all that well known, but they had a story that was compelling and Flo's story has a lot of drama that could make for a compelling story. Although I have no faith [[pun intended) in the production company behind the Blondie project to pull off a good movie, or even a movie period.

I still hear people talk about the time they went to see "Lady" with their group of friends when it was released in 1972. Ross was young herself, so a lot of young people attended the movie and learned more about the name Billie Holiday.

Regardless of any lack of name recognition of Flo Ballard, there is always room for great stories in cinematic productions. How producers treat it is what makes the big difference. The story is what is important, even if they never use Florence's real name.
